Geely announced as Bloodhound SSC lead partner

New sponsorship deal means 1,000mph attempt is back on for next year

It's been a while since we've heard anything from the Bloodhound project, the last report on PH coming after the global debut just about a year ago. Today there's significant news though, as Chinese automotive group Geely has been announced as a lead partner after signing a three-year deal.

The Zhejiang Geely Holding Group, to give it its full name, will provide technical and financial support to the project. Geely will also help promote the project across Asia as the team looks for global support.

Geely will be a name best known to UK enthusiasts as the parent company of Volvo since 2009, taking over once Ford sold. It also owns the London Taxi Company, so if there appears to be a lot of black cabs around the project from now on...

Richard Noble, the man of course legendary for creating Thrust SSC and also head of the Bloodhound project, said that "We could not have a better partner than Geely: not only are they an international technology company with tremendous vision and capability, they share our passion for innovation and education."

But beyond mutual admiration from each party and the ongoing promise to get kids involved with engineering, this agreement also means an attempt at 1,000mph is back on. With guaranteed funding, the team can push on and should be at the Hakskeen Pan next autumn. We can't wait to see how it progresses.

And what happened to my (first post of the thread) asking exactly the same thing?

Edit: It's OK, I found the answer in the dedicated thread here:

Cheers - though it was a bit strange that I was the first to mention it a day after the news
