£100K Garage: Alex Norton

Well if you're going to bend the rules and have another car then a Noble is a good way to do it!

Name: Alex Norton
Previously owned: VW Golf MK2 Driver, Vauxhall Astra 1.6, BMW 325i E36, BMW 318Ci E46, Seat Leon Cupra R, Audi A4 1.8T among others
Currently owned: Alfa Romeo 159 2.4 JTDM Ti
On the shortlist: BMW M3 (E46,) BMW 335d Touring or Alpina D3, B7 Audi RS4

Noble M12 GTO
Cost
: £33,499
Balance: £66,501
Why I chose it: "I remember first reading about these in my early teens and thinking 'I need one of these one day'! For me it's the ultimate track day/weekend driver with the perfect combination of performance, looks and noise. I think I've seen two in the flesh on the roads which makes me want one even more!"

BMW 1M Coupe
Cost: £41,995
Balance: £24,506
Why I chose it: "I decided to bend the rules and go for two rear-wheel drive choices. Another rare one to see on the road but another epic driver's car. It was between this and the E46 M3 (which I am researching now to buy for real) but figured with £100K to push the boat out, why not?"

Audi RS4
Cost
: £19,500
Balance: £5,006
Why I chose it: "My four-wheel drive choice isn't an SUV. It's a practical car for the family bbut with plenty of performance. I know everyone picks these but after having a go in one the other day I can see why - what a weapon! I love the standard looks and the wingback seats but would have the silver steering wheel recovered in Alcantara with my remaining £1,306." [Sadly Alex's chosen RS4 has sold, but there are plenty more on offer here - MB]

VW Golf GTI Mk2 16v
Cost:
£3,700
Balance: £1,306
Why I chose it: "My first car was the MK2 Golf Driver and I absolutely loved it. I wheelspun it everywhere in typical 17year-old fashion but looking back I wish I kept it. It was low mileage and had the GTI kit on it plus the GTI interior. So I'm using the FWD budget to relive my dream, this time the proper 16v GTI."

Yikes! Surely these aren't that appealing. I mean I get it's got a stirring stick and it's an M car but is there that much between it and an M135?

Nice choices, Noble is a good shout - might make that 1M seem a bit pants though.

Given that everyone who is posting these 100k garages seems to be 'bending the rules', isn't it time to drop the new format??

You beat me to it. Clearly, the only interesting garages are not sticking to the rules - and good on them.

Given the task of spending 100k (and 'only' that 100k) on cars, sane people will come up with a list that includes:
- proposition(s) for every day use
- proposition(s) for long distance travel
- proposition(s) for weekend toy/hard driving/whatever your fancy
That's what i want to see. Not a selection based on driven wheel arrangement and whatnot. The first two categories seem to be entirely missing these days.

The noble - so rare - good luck finding one or even seeing one on the road

The looks of that car are unbelievable - ahead of its time really

We need more low volume British designed and engineered cars ...
And more cars with huge spoilers on the back 👍👍

That 1M price seems a bit low!

The man has good taste though, having got a Noble and 1M in my garage. :-)
