Lexus - Paris 2016

Progressive, urban and living in a connected environment? Lexus has the holographically enhanced car for you!

With a boast that it "takes Lexus's design language to the next level" there's probably not much about the UX concept or its accompanying press info that'll have you feeling charitable thoughts. But in fairness this is a concept and its role is to make some noise at a motor show, not necessarily reflect what you might be buying at your local Lexus showroom.

And though the design - created at Lexus's European HQ - is best described as unapologetic it has a certain Manga-esque brutality about it that takes the NX and RX to, well, the next level.

The real interest here is inside the cabin though, where things really do get properly sci-fi. Conventional dials - even TFT displays - are out and, in their place, the UX has a transparent globe onto which analogue style 'dials' and digitally reproduced information can be displayed. Lexus describes it as appearing like a hologram, a description also applied to the "faceted crystal structure" that sits in the centre console and displays infotainment and heating and ventilation controls.

All very motor show and futuristic. Looking to something a little closer to reality Lexus is also showing the rather lovely LC coupe, a car that on looks alone promises a great deal. More on this very soon, we hope.
