£100K Garage: Gobind Rai
Three fairly new choices for Gobind, but it looks a pretty good selection from here!
Previously owned: Audi 80 CL (yes honestly!), VW Golf Mk2 Driver, VW Passat TDI Sport, BMW 320Cd (E46), Lexus IS220d, BMW 323i Convertible (E36), BMW M3 Convertible (E36), BMW 330Ci Convertible (E46), VW Golf Mk4 GT TDI, Audi TT
Currently owned: BMW 328i Convertible (E36), Skoda Yeti TDI, Porsche Boxster S 987.2
On the shortlist: Porsche Boxster Spyder 981 (that's the lottery win car), Morgan Aero 8 (love the Art Deco styling), Land Rover Discovery, Mazda MX-5 ND (for when I eventually downgrade the Boxster)
Porsche 981 Boxster Spyder
Cost: £78,995
Balance: £21,005
Why I chose it: "If I could only have one car it would be this - to my eyes the styling is just sublime, combining aggression with beauty. It's obviously a convertible too; having discovered convertibles late on in life I would not be without one now! So this Spyder pretty much ticks all my boxes and probably provides 95 per cent of the GT4 experience for less money. If I could have fit it in I would probably get a Sapphire Blue one but Guards Red looks stunning don't you think? RWD done!"
Renaultsport Megane Cup
Cost: £10,495
Balance: £10,510
Why I chose it: "It's time to fess up: I totally didn't get the fuss over the RS Megane and when one of my relatives bought one I have to admit to being quite snobbish about it - sorry! I thought the interior was naff and the styling ordinary, so why was everyone raving about it? Roll on a few years and a colleague bought a facelift Trophy and we went out for a spirited drive - what a fool I had been! I was smitten, to the extent I nearly ordered a new one (long story and I'm an idiot because I bought an Audi TT instead!). Whilst nearly buying that Trophy 275 I realised that here was a car that could cope with the practicality I needed but had the ability to turn into a beast at the drop of a hat. Liquid Yellow is the perfect colour too, so if I had to have one affordable car I think the Megane RS would be it (although I'd want a facelift one). FWD ticked!" [Unfortunately the Liquid yellow example was sold so it has been replaced with this red Cup - N.A]
Skoda Yeti 4x4
Cost: £9,995
Balance: £?515
Why I chose it: "?Of all the cars this is the easiest choice - the Yeti! Having owned one for three years I love the way the car looks and just goes about the daily grind with absolutely no fuss. It isn't pretentious, it is well put together and totally classless - just a simple, brilliant product that I'd have no hesitation in recommending to anyone. Obviously if I could afford it the only car I'd replace a Yeti with is a Discovery but then I'd blow the budget! The change can go towards a mountain bike!"
A Boxster, a Megane and a Skoda.
You're not very good at spending money, are you?
Some of the replies are quite funny here so it's good that I've polarised opinion but my view on life is I want things I can live with and enjoy every day - I don't want any garage queens I just want to enjoy driving
I've driven astons/ferraris/r8/m cars (owned m cars) and admire them all but I love convertibles above all else and to me the spyder is the best of all convertibles
Also, people spend a lot more on a cayman GT4 and don't worry about it, the boxster spyder is the equivalent for me.
If you cant see anything wrong with spending 80,000 quid on a boxster. then I don't think anything I say is going to matter is it. Say 80,000 out loud followed by boxster. I actually laughed to myself. Make sure nobody is near you.

I however can fully appreciate that the OP is able to get a dream car of his, regardless of what is still a limited amount of funds available, within the hypothetical budget. One that he would be both happy to own for many years and one that he would potentially not lose any money on within his ownership so I'll ask why the original purchase price should be of any importance?
Can you provide a post which couldn't be emulated by an 11 year old?
It's really hard to fit all I wanted into £100k and meet the FWD/RWD/4WD criteria but its a fantastic exercise in learning what you really want and what matters.
I'd recommend everyone gives it a go and I'm really pleased as I would honestly buy those cars with the money - now I just need the money LOL
The Megane, what can I say - I hated it to start with and just thought cheap french rubbish but then when you realise new ones come with a 4 year warranty you think how bad can it be. Then take it out on roads you are familiar with and let it loose the car is sublime. I preferred it to the Fiesta ST by a long shot (I test drove them both back to back on extended runs). Not sure I could cope with the recaro seats though so may have to have the padded ones and the cabin is very dated IMO
@SMOKEY32 - honestly if you ever get the chance just ignore the price and drive one - the experience is phenomenal, t's just the problem with Porsche limited run cars are they go for a premium, I think the car was £60kish brand new.
