BMW M4 DTM Champion Edition

Missed out on an M4 GTS? Now the same spec is available with stripes!

Now while the stickers and stripes school of limited editions is not one we're typically fans of, when said special is based on an M4 GTS there can't be too many complaints. So welcome the BMW M4 DTM Champion Edition, a celebration of Marco Wittmann's drivers' title in this year's DTM.

Mmm, sporty
Mmm, sporty
Interestingly given BMW made only 700 GTS M4s, another 200 DTM cars are being produced. Perhaps BMW needs to recoup some more money on the investment? And maybe there's still some possibility of a saloon version as well... As for spec, it's mechanically identical to a GTS: water-injected straight-six turbo with 500hp, 3.8 seconds to 62mph and 190mph flat out. It also keeps that car's carbon ceramic brakes, manually adjustable dampers and Cup 2 tyres. Thankfully the wheels are no longer orange.

Marking out the DTM, in case you hadn't noticed, is a "distinctive exterior design" inspired by the touring car. It's only offered in Alpine White with "additional foiling" (see the front flics, new front splitter and side skirt attachments) again to make it look like a DTM car. The stripes appear to be compulsory as well - are you brave enough? The interior is as per the GTS a with a half cage, bucket seats and Alcantara wheel.

Now BMW says 200 DTM Champion Editions will be available globally, with a price in Germany of 148,500 euros (£134,000 at today's exchange rate). As soon as there's any word on UK availability we'll let you know!

Blimey. At over 10 grand more than a gts that's some expensive 'distinctive exterior design'

Those front 'flics' are called cannards. Also, are manufacturers not worried about angering customers? If I had just spent £120k+ on a GTS thinking it was a limited run of 700 and then they go and release another 200 i'd be pretty pissed off.

The majority of that change will just be currency movements...

Yet another cynical marketing ploy for the collectors with more money than sense.

To be fair only 27 were officially imported into the UK. Saw one at my dealer and truth to be told it left me cold....

I sort of "prefer" this version I like some of the stripes, not all though and the naff M badges on the lower portion next to the side skirts look exactly that, naff.

So basically a McLaren 540C or a glorified remapped 435i. Hmm...

Do those people really care? If you're in a position to be keeping as an investment will you be anything more than unsurprised and peeved.

I think it'll be those just affording the car on the basis that they don't have to eat a whole chunk of depreciation and tbh the new increased number isn't going to alter that.

I likey..a LOT.

with regards special eds: i personally think it's worth paying the extra for a proper 'skunkworks' edition.

sat in one at FOS and it 'feels' properly special. had i the money, this car would genuinely have me agonise between it and the GT3.

it also means that i'm very unlikely to have rolling up alongside me some 'oink-done-good' ha-ha.

M2 GTS/CSL/Tii/you get the idea, would be of more interest than a re-liveried M4 GTS (good car as it is).

"Why don't you mess with a French duck?"

"'Cos they're cannard!"

I'll get my expensively striped coat.......

Taking the mantra "Win on Sunday, sell on Monday" to the extreme, aren't they?

What would they have done with these 200 cars if Mortara's Audi had won the DTM yesterday? Stripes off again I suppose?

Funny how 900 units of an expensive supercar is considered a limited run these days: in comparison they only made 950 Lotus Carltons/Omegas ever and they still couldn't shift what they made!

Prime BMW rip off here, still if the Muppets have cash guess they will spend it. Tragic.

If you could afford the £120k for the GTS you can afford this as well. Anyone willing or able to spend that sort of money on what is 'only' an M3 isn't worried about costs.
Ps no offence meant to any owners when saying only an M3, think you'll get what I mean. I'd love an M3.
