So, as a long term car enthusiast I've done all sorts of stuff over the years, from early ownership of a Lotus (I worked for Caterham when they were still on the hill smile ) through fast mini's and various Fords, TVR, now, an Aston... saw Goldfinger in the cinema when it was first released in 1964... I was twelve smile

Anyhoo, I'm putting a new battery in this coming weekend, and there are a few cosmetic jobs I want to get stuck into... Firstly, the wing mirror supports, lots of corrosion that needs rubbing down, treating, and finishing... any recommendations? Here's a piccie.

Secondly, the rear diffuser... alloy blocks (corroded) and the mesh (that looks like something a plasterer uses} all looks proper tat... again, any ideas or suggestions based on experience? I'll probably go for shot blast and powder coat if no other ideas come up.... piccies...

And lastly (for now smile ) I need leather cleaning stuff. but there are a few scratched bits that I'm sure the proper colour stuff will eliminate.. for example the red is 'chancellor'... and it needs some tlc.... where can I get good leather care stuff from that is the original AM colours??

Thanks in advance guys...
Chilli smile

For the rear slats, if I were you I'd just mask the bumper off and then give them a blast of satin black - it's a 10 min job. For the leather, Gliptone/Liquid Leather will send out colour matched stuff (they also have a database of colours). Easy to use, water based and effective.

If you don't want it to come back, strip it right down and cut them back to metal. Spray with etching primer then paint.

I have a spare set of the mesh and the rear alloy block if you want to them for a few ££

Pop me a email on PH and will send you some pictures and a price.

I've got exactly the same problems with mine and was going to start looking into the various options of fixing.

My thoughts are that they need a proper stripping and possible powder coating.

This way they should last a little longer than if you just use a bit of emery cloth and some black paint.

Nice couple of jobs to sort whilst the cars in the garage for winter.

My local dealership (leeds JCT) repainted them on my old Vantage for £40 each - looked perfect.

Are you talking about the mirror arms or the slats? If the former, it seems very cheap!

the grilles are cheap enough just to buy new, check www.astonmartinbits.com

or mask off and spray with some black smoothrite, did that once on my old Vantage and it lasted another 30k miles or so until I traded in at 10 years/80k miles

I had the wings replaced because the dealer indicated that a high quality repaint would be more expensive. Was 1200 Swiss Francs after deducting dealer contribution... so, not cheap.

But then you have to take the rear bumper off to fit them, so it's quite involved.

That's what I just did with mine. It is a bit fiddly to mask everything up properly but much easier DIY job than replacement.

I just remembered that I think I might have a full rear set of mounts, grilles and under-wing/diffuser if anyone needs them. All off my old 4.7 tungsten car.

There again, if you're removing the rear bumper (not hard) then one of these might not be a bad idea... smile
