Golf GTI Clubsport S vs. JCW Challenge: PH Video

Read the twin test? Now here's the video verdict!

Mini JCW Challenge versus Golf GTI Clubsport S wasn't a conventional hot hatch twin test, but it proved a fascinating comparison. Despite the best efforts of Donington's weather...

Here's a PH video from the sodden circuit, with Matt switching between the two and attempting to discover more than just how wet it is. Both put on an excellent display given they are optimised for a dry track, with far more grip and traction than you might expect from two cars on Michelin Cup 2 tyres. And far more fun as well, which is not something you would always associate with these two cars in standard form.

So grab a pew and take a look. Feedback is, as always, more than welcome. And if anyone knows where and when it might be sunny soon then we'd very much appreciate it!

Watch the video here.

Good to see PH make a decent quality video again with some "attainable" or at least relatable cars.

Not quite sure I agree with Golf Gti's not really being an enthiusiast car.

No rear seats in the Golf? Then why don't they just blank out the back windows, call it a van and exploit the company car tax loophole?

That mini looks awful. It's like the designer didn't know where to stop.

I wish I had the foresight to get the Clubsport S and stick it in a garage for the next 10 years smile

Mini Challenge for me, all day every day. The Golf just looks so incredibly dull, I couldn't care less if it's faster.
Neither of them look 'dull' imo, but both are based on hum drum base models though. There's the Mini for the slightly more flamboyant among us and don't care about our fillings falling out over bumps, and there's the Golf for those who prefer the stealth approach, but delivers the goods where it counts. Everyone is happy smile Is that a PH first?

Really like them both, but i'd choose the Clubsport S given a choice. It's the Hot Hatch of the moment from what i've read.

Well done for keeping it on the track Matt, I've heard Donington described as the slipperiest circuit in the UK when it's wet.
