Porsche 911R - Britain's Best Driver's Car | Autocar vid
Discussion
Great...........wooopie bloody do
Looking forward to trying one then..........er not
I have to say that this car has done more to damage my allegiance to the brand than any 4 cyclinder turbo!
What did AP say - something like - '...we listened to what drivers were saying about PDK and responded....' it's a shame they didn't build it any numbers so 'we' actually could drive it........
It's a real shame you cannot buy something which isn't some marketing guff or willy waving - look how good we are at making cars, just don't think about trying to buy one etc....
AP/Porsche - you read these forums - build a car for drivers, make it in numbers so we can go into a dealers and actually buy one without having to resort to shenanigans or sexual favours to the dealer staff members. Give it a 475bhp 4 ltr, options for decent or no aero, options for decent seats and brakes, call it a club sport, make it a bit lighter, offer it with PDK or manual, sell it in 3 colours, sell it for £100k - I don't care - just make it light(ish), just DON'T make it in limited numbers so it's 30% more (or in the case of the R - 300% more - JOKE) than list on the second hand market about 10 minutes after launch.....
Just make us a drivers car, us 'drivers' can actually walk into your dealership and buy!
Embittered rant over now, sorry, I'll get back in the box......

I'm not so sure about that...
Have heard recently that the GT3 will stay PDK only to protect its performance, and there will be a GT 'Touring' or maybe just a GTS that will have the 6-Spd manual option.
Don't know for sure, but makes sense and would be a new "niche" car. We'll find out soon enough...
(PS - that's my R...)

Autocar says it has a manual option ...
Yep, and they said the 91RS is a Turbo due to the fact it has side vents in rear wings.Imv, aside from putting the GT3 brand back a step, ie from a slower lap time prospective than the 91 PDKs version. I don't see how all the systems on the RWS and E-Diff will sit well with a MT.
Just my view
Couldn't it just be an 991R with a wing, wider tyres, rear cage, and different stripes?
..I think this is easily possible without much development costs. However, the marketing guys are probably having the debate on whether to call that a 991GT3 (slower version) or rebrand it something different (GTS, Clubsport, etc) and retain a PDK GT3

I think it's more likely a 'de-tuned', more civilised R, which is manual but doesn't have a wing or a cage, and is road focused. I'm sure the marketing guys know already!

Confirmed by a Porsche engineer that there will be a "T" model (current internal designation) to follow the R. Manual and uprated engine. I hope they do "add lightness" and also offer a single mass flywheel at least as an option. Yes and if the production numbers are too generous then less people will want to buy it Upnorthgt3 said:
^ hopefully less people will want it, then people who want to buy sports cars from Porsche but don't want to buy 4 cayennes a year can get on the list and actually buy one! The idea of a 'downspec'd R (badged as a T or whatever) sounds a great idea!' I'd be delighted to walk into an OPC and hand over my loot for one of those
911T? Yes please.APOLO1 said:

You may sell be correct --- the lack of complication is possibly the shining glory of the GT4 --- that and the fact that it has possibly the best manual gearbox in the World Imv, aside from putting the GT3 brand back a step, ie from a slower lap time prospective than the 91 PDKs version. I don't see how all the systems on the RWS and E-Diff will sit well with a MT.

Of course, for anybody who is after a lap time without being able to drive, the GT3 is unquestionably the superior car --- and even faster for anybody that can drive !
But I do like my GT4 --- even if I prefer PDK on the track
