Hi Guys

I am new to Aston Martin and have just collected my first Aston Martin this weekend a dbs which has kept me with a stupid grin on my face ever since I picked her up even if just looking at it! I have a few questions that I haven't seen on the faq post so thought I would start a new thread as I have been hijacking the dbs values one at the mo.

The initial queries I have which if anyone could point me in the direction of I would appreciate it.

-First gear has seemed a little hesitant to engage is there a skill in getting her into first?
-What is the procedure for using the battery cut off and then renegaging the battery? I know the button is in the boot but wondered if there is anything to do other than pressing the button.
-How long do people leave their cars without use or trickle charge, just I have an esprit with a new battery that cant be left for longer than 7 days without going flat.

Really appreciate any direction on these points.

Thank you

Lovely thing, congrats!

I presume it's a manual?

First and second can be notchy until warm, anything other than that may need some adjustment.
Sorry not sure re battery (only ever changed one on a Vantage)
I put the conditioner on mine if it's not going to be driven for a week, no problems thus far.
They're notoriously niggly with a weak battery so worth keeping it topped up.

Agree completely with all of the above. The battery can discharge pretty quickly if not used regularly and mine has needed a complete system reboot at the workshop when it went flat so I would invest in a trickle charger pronto.

That's a hell of an introduction to the marque. Good on you.

Thank you, yes it is a manual, should have said that smile

It was a lot better when it was warm it just took a little longer than I expected as I thought when water hit optimum temp it would have been long enough which was circa 15 mins ish but it was prob a good 30 mins+ before I felt it being slick. Out of interest what charger do you use and where do you connect to boot/bonnet?

Welcome to the DBS club smile
A manual too, where on earth did you find that?
Most of us here use the C-Tek trickle charger, occasionally amazon have a nice offer of them. You'll need the additional cigarette light kit for it too.

Regarding the gear change, maybe getting the gear oil replaced will ease that.

I wouldn't bother with the massively overpriced Aston branded charger. I found a reasonably priced one online (can't remember the make) but I guess that's when Amazon reviews come in handy. The one I bough clips the positive onto the charging point in the centre underneath the bonnet (it's the terminal covered with a plastic cap) and the negative to a suitable earth (I use the bolt on the cross brace). I believe c-tek do a cigarette lighter adaptor if you wanted to go down that route also. Hope that helps.

Should be a lighter socket in the boot. Attach. Close boot & lock.
I use a CTEK conditioner (same as AM but un branded!)

This. CTEK 5.0 (any) or better will pay dividends. They do lots of extras for connecting easily, worth a peruse.

First is a pain when cold yes

Mine is always connected to the CTek, don't see any point in taking the risk of a flat battery.

Lovely looking DBS! Beautifully proportioned cars. If I couldn't use mine for a week, I'd put it on a trickle charger. Never had a problem with starting it.

My Astons are on trickle chargers (all C-tek) 24/7. You never know when they might be sitting for longer than planned, so the best advice is to leave it plugged in all the time.

Notchy 1st/2nd can be significantly improved with a trans oil change to the latest spec; a little when cold and a lot when warm.

Firstly congratulations on your "entry level" AM, very nice way to start the ownership experience.

As has been said an oil change will probably help but beware of using the water temp as an indicator as oil takes a lot longer to come up to temp than water especially if you have an efficient oil cooler system which I believe these have.

Water is not a bad indicator of engine oil temp, but the trans is at the back of the car and not bolted to the back of the motor, so water temp is really irrevelant; miles matter to shifting ease.
