Bloody fed up and annoyed.

A guy a few doors down roller painted the outside of his house, that he owns as a buy to let, and got paint splatter all over our 1 months old Yeti.

He offered to clean it, really wish I had said no now.

He started ok on the paint, so I left him to it.

The idiot used a scourer and meths on some parts, and I didn't realise till it was too late.

Now the car now still has paint splatter, and wrecked plastic trim, and lights.

Got to go through our insurance, and they will try and claim back off him.

He said to them, "I'm not sure if I have insurance", so that will be a no then.

One would hope/assume to had some form of public liability insurance in place.

Good luck.

Ask him to pay for new trim and a professional clean/polish.

At our work a very clever team of painters decided they were going to spray paint the cladding on the next door building on the windiest day of the year. All of our cars had a thin layer of paint splatter on them that wasn't visible but only became apparent when you rubbed your hand gently over the paintwork or ran the window wipers which sounded like they were running on sand paper. Anyway, the paint company paid for a team of people to come and detail all of the cars and it took them quite a long time to get all of the paint off and they had different techniques for the panels, glass, rubber, plastic and alloys. Took 5 of them about a week to do all of the affected cars.

Good luck.

Three cars? Thirty cars? Three hundred cars?

If that was mine I would take it to a proper detailer and get a quote that your neighbour agrees too rather than going through your insurance.

A pal of mine is a detailer and sees a lot of this, the worst being concrete render spatter on a 458 from a building project next door.

What the fk!? Who could possibly think a scourer or meths were suitable things to use?

Very annoying but I suppose he thought he was doing the right thing even though the approach was completely stupid.

I think most if not all of it will come out, so as above I would go the detailing route or at least get an opinion from one before proceeding further.

Unfortunately he will agree to nothing.

We are going to have to fight him all the way.

Even after I pointed out that he had done this, he asked if I still wanted him to do my Octavia!

Luckily mine is a £300 snotter, tip run car, so I'll live with the paint all over it.

Regardless of if he has insurance, he is liable for the damage.

Not having insurance doesn't mean you don't have to pay for your cock ups. It means you don't have someone else to pass the bill onto.

Is he literally blind? eek

If it's "just" the plastic it'll almost certainly polish out in the right hands with the right kit.

"I'm not sure I have insurance"
"Ah well, you'd better contact your bank manager."

The sort of idiot that drives a crappy van and has never had a nice car.

one of my old neighbours used a scouring pad to clear bird poo off her car, and she is as thick as two short planks, it takes a special kind of person to do that.

it's the other person that should be financially out of pocket for their muck up, not you.

That's annoying. I don't know about such things but presumably if you followed some other advice like small claims etc..his defence could potentially be that you allowed him to clean the car, he isn't trained, qualified blah blah.

To that end it might be a whole lot less stressful ( albeit infuriating) if you took it to a detailer and just get it done then move on?

I know some will say bash him over the head with a paint roller etc etc but sometimes you just have to choose your battles and maybe karma will repay you....or him smile

Public liability is a standard part of buildings insurance.
