On the shortlist: "I prefer more practical classics than very exotic ones, nevertheless the retained value has also played an important role in my recent purchases. Cars that are easier to maintain would be helpful as sorting problems out always seems to cause me a headache!"

Morgan Roadster

Why I chose it: "I have always wanted a Morgan Roadster as, in my view, it is the perfect blend of classic lines with modern technology. I would actually prefer blue or grey, but racing green is always a faultless choice for Morgan. I chose a Roadster over the Plus 4 simply for the power and engine sound."

Bentley Turbo R

Why I chose it: "Another classic that I love very much. Compared to the Aston Martin Lagonda of the same era (which I like very much, too) Turbo R seems more sensible and drivable for everyday. The Lagonda is very much a car for a museum instead of public roads now. The Turbo R is probably the best of the both worlds, with a much better design of electronics and mechanics and the strong Rolls Royce/Bentley heritage. This particular one looks like new and the Royal Blue seems the best colour for Turbo R I have ever seen so far."

Nissan Skyline GT-R R32 V Spec II

Why I chose it: "A 4WD coupe with style, speed, an affordable price now and perhaps even some appreciation potential also - the R32 GT-R is one of my favourites. I prefer unmodified car and this example seems one of the very few that has very little done to it. And as a Nissan fan, the R32 is the one to go for!"

Citroen C4 Cactus

Why I chose it: "A practical and frugal car to drive around town. I've always liked the C4 Cactus as it is not as boring as the other models from popular makes. The soft bumper on the doors are dent proof, which makes perfect sense to fit into narrow parking spaces with modern cars getting wider and wider!"

Nissan Pathfinder Aventura DCI

Why I chose it: "I need a workhorse that is reliable and tough enough for rough use and has a high ground clearance too. My experience with my 300GE was a car that appeared to have such values but which you you don't want to use too roughly as it is very costly to repair! Therefore prestige brands like Merc and Land Rover were off the list. I know I should go for Toyota Hilux for reliability but, as usual, Nissan is always my personal choice!"
