The big 5 litre bottles of -60c screenwash in Lidl - they're a bit late this year.
Anybody got any in their local Lidl yet? I tend to get a whole years worth in one bulk buy every winter, use it almost neat over winter then dilute til the following winter.

I'm running low now.

On a recent search for the best screenwash, I found numerous people suggesting Lidl and so I've been on the lookout but nothing frown

I've resorted to autoglym but It's quite expensive per litre.

This got me reading about the ingredients of screenwash, which seems to be a mix of water, ethanol and ethylene glycol.
It can't be that one maker has 'better' chemicals than other, can it?

The Lidl stuff represents pretty well the best there is - it's very cheap, doesn't smear and as far as I'm aware performs best. the next-best options are all, as pointed out above, pretty expensive.

I commute on the M62 every day over the Pennines and I use absolutely buckets full of it.

I've wondered the same. Any chemists in the house want to explain the nuances?

I don't think they do it any more?
I even rang their helpline and they have no record of any deliveries this year.

Shame because it was the best stuff out there.

Oh no. I've only got the dregs of a bottle. Superb stuff. I wonder if the manufacturer makes it for any other retailer?

not if you buy in the 5L drums. get it direct from the van, not the shops. he comes to our place most weeks and I always stock up but always buy in 5/25L drums. so much cheaper than the smaller retail containers.

I'd been wondering where the Lidl screenwash was as well. I'm also down to the dregs & watching their website for a car care offer coming up.
I've had a look for the 5l AutoGlym, best price I can find is £29 delivered, is that about right or are there better offers out there?
Anyone know if this stuff is any good? It's about the nearest I can find to Lidl freezing point/price http://www.eurocarparts.com/ecp/p/car-accessories/...

Autoglym can be diluted 1:15 parts though for general use. think the Lidl one is 1:2 max. plus, you don't have to face going into a Lidl store smile some things you can't put a price on.

It will be related to the relative amounts (molarities and concentrations) of each chemical, plus the purity of each ingredient used. You will also need to consider any other additives as there will be quite literally dozens more chemicals added to improve various features of the screenwash, as well as different variants of the "active" ingredients.

Does anyone else use the 5L No Nonsense from Screwfix? £3.99 and can dilute 5:1 for 25L.

Don't know if it's as effective as that Lidl stuff above, but I've never had any problems with it and a hell of a lot cheaper than most stuff!

I miss that screen wash.

Couldn't find any last year either sadly.
Was great for cutting through all grime and didn't get any other from it.

I just bought a couple of bottles and poured it in neat hehe couldn't be bothered with the watering down faff.

Interesting. I like the word molarities.
Any way of telling from the ingredient list whether you're looking at good stuff or not (if screenwashes even list ingredients).
Or are the benefits only revealed when testing it? Not sure I'd be able to rate screenwash, other to tell that it squirts, smells suitably chemically, and is either frozen or not!

possibly a silly question, but i always use neat water and can think of only once or twice in the last few years that i had frozen washer jets. Does this stuff clean the windscreen any better than water or is it just the anti freeze characteristics that make it good/worth the money?
