Build your miniature Ford GT!

Made it to the 'approved applicants' list for a Ford GT? Now a kit will let you physically spec your car

Well this is something different. Beyond the online configurator for the GT launched last year, Ford Performance has now released a "unique order kit" for customers. Or rather the fortunate "approved applicants", chosen from an oversubscribed list to spend however much Ford actually decides its reimagined supercar will cost.

"Hi, Ford? I'd quite like Focus RS Ultimate Green..."
"Hi, Ford? I'd quite like Focus RS Ultimate Green..."
The kit comprises a host of parts customers will be able to configure for the actual car, including paint (with removable stripes), brake calipers, wheels, interior upholstery and even a miniature VIN plate. As well as this, the kit uses materials from the real thing such carbon fibre and Alcantara. It's like Lego then, without the awkward bit of actually constructing anything. And only if you're rich. And on YouTube.

"This high-quality kit is a hands-on tool for Ford GT customers to enhance their ordering experience", says Henry Ford III, describing the process as "an intimate, tactile way to discern the multitude of choices to configure their ideal supercar." All well and good, but how long until some requests a kit with the Gulf colours in?

Ford will be sending out the kits imminently; once the order is serialised, that mini VIN is replaced with the actual VIN for your car. Nice touch. As for what the car costs or when it may arrive with customers, we're none the wiser. Are there any lucky people on PH getting one perhaps?

I love things like this. Makes a purchasing experience an event - which it should be when you're buying such a vehicle.

Kudos to Ford and their 'experience' dept.
