New Porsche owner here.
Can anyone tell me if it is possible to 'send' music to the PCM over bluetooth?

I notice when I make a call off my phone I am given the option as to whether i want the speaker to be my phone or PCM, cant seem to work out if I can do that with the phone for music.

Thanks all for replies

Thanks. Looks like I'll have to use a Aux lead then.... or use a bluetooth receiver which you're right have mixed reviews (and require power input)

Apologies SV, deleted my response because I wasn't sure if that was correct for the PCM 3.0

It will connect calls but not music by bluetooth direct from phone. I use an Android phone so I bought an ipod for music and use the cable that came with the car.

Thread here for more info .....

Thanks, I shall check this out more. Some of the bluetooth options look expensive (£80+ for a receiver). Might just have to go for a standard Aux lead

I'm on android too. I currently use an aux lead with my pcm 3.0 with iPod interface installed. Sound quality is fantastic as I run my phone music through a portable DAC/amp with a line out feed into the car's aux in. I use high bitrate mp3s and flac files. I think aux cable quality also matters.

The downside to this configuration are 1. Always need to plug and unplug phone. 2. No track info on pcm. 3. Cannot control music via car's controls. 4. Does not pause song when radio traffic info runs.

Like you, I'm not convinced with Bluetooth especially these £80 adapters. Reviews are mixed at best.

To counter the disadvantages of aux listed above, my solution is to get an iPhone 4s from eBay to be left permanently in the car. Costs about £40. 4s is the last of the 30pin iPhones, it's software can be updated to iOS 9 so most apps will still run on it. I already have the porsche y cable. I expect to be able to download music apps like Google play music in addition to the built in Apple music. I will set it to auto sync via WiFi when I'm parked at the house. Will set it up this weekend.

Let me know how this goes, please. Given it is an iPod interface I suspect it will only work with iTunes (purchased) music & not with Google Play. But as I use Google Play I am intrigued to understand whether this works for you & gives you the full control of media through PCM (track names I am less bothered about).

Additionally, are you already using a in-car phone holder for your current setup? be interested to know which one - I found some on Amazon but reviews say they can damage the air vents they need to be affixed to, so naturally want to avoid that!

Sure will update the thread when I try out Google Play on the iphone 4s.

I don't normally use a phone holder in the car as my passenger seat is vacant 95% of the time. So I just leave the phone on the seat. On the rare occasion when I mount my Nexus 5 phone in order to use Google maps, I use the "Anker Phone Holder Air Vent 360 Degree Car Holder" (£7 from Amazon). I find it adequate, with no sign of damage to the vents as far as i see - though I have only used it 2 or 3 times. By the way, I use the "Anker 3.5mm Premium Auxiliary Audio Cable 4ft AUX Cable" (£5 from Amazon).

This gizmo does the trick, just got one for my 997.2. Power comes from the Usb socket. It allows simultaneous connection to the cars hand free for calls

My experience with the Tune2Air Bluetooth adaptor can be found here:

Works well and can be used to play music stored on iphone as well as other streaming services from phone..all with the phone in your pocket.

I found that Google play music works fine with the the iphone 4s connected to the PCM 3.0 via the Porsche Y cable.By default, when connected for the first time, PCM picked up the native Apple music app. I then started the Google play music app, played a song from a playlist/album and from this point on I can use the car's controls to go to the previous / next track, current track info is displayed on the PCM screen and it pauses when traffic news comes on. This effectively meets all my requirements. Also, as the phone is quite small, it fits in the armrest nicely.

One thing to note though is that, while it recognizes the number of tracks in your playlist/album, if you go to "track list" on your PCM, all tracks are displayed as "play music" except the current track, whose name is displayed correctly. However, this is not an issue for me. Spotify streaming also behaves in a similar manner.

As this iphone is effectively being used as an ipod and will be left in the car, i have disabled most of the services on it e.g. wifi, location, bluetooth, siri etc. Wifi will get turned on when i need it to pick up updates to playlists.

Another option I tried in the past was putting music into folders in a USB key/drive, but I found that more than half of my mp3s were being skipped by the PCM, so I had to look for other approaches.

Thanks for reporting the findings. Lightning to 30pin adapter cable ordered.
