New 800hp Camaro SS Yenko

A new Super Snake and now another Yenko? The muscle car wars are back!

Whether you know Yenko Camaros through a muscle car fascination or perhaps that drag race in 2Fast 2Furious - it'll snap a speedo in five seconds flat, don't forget - it's certainly up there as one of the muscle car icons. Like a Shelby Mustang in fact, which of course has also just been updated for 2017.

Nice touch
Nice touch
Yenko Camaros are now made under licence from Speciality Vehicle Engineering (SVE), but the old Yenko tradition of gigantic power in a Camaro remains. Thanks to a forged crank, new heads, new pistons, uprated injectors and one massive supercharger, this Yenko Camaro makes 800hp and 750lb ft. There's even a badge to show off in traffic.

It also gets 20-inch wheels in the classic Yenko style, a smattering of badges and a choice of colours for the graphics: orange, white, silver, red, yellow and black. An orange car with black graphics would work nicely, right? That new bonnet is carbon fibre too.

SVE asks $40,000 for the supercharger upgrade, excluding the price of a donor car. But it also says just 50 a year will be made, keeping it exclusive. That or there only 50 people a year mad enough to want to drive an 800hp Camaro. Good luck to them all!

That...is....hideous....

By the way, the muscle car power wars have been back since like 2003/4/5. They disappeared in the 70s, were around for like 2 years in the 80s and perhaps 3 years of the 90s depending on the matchup. But they have been going strong since at least the time of the Terminator Mustang Cobra and C5 Z06 Vette.

Not exactly a looker, but 800hp in a (presumably warranted?) form is quite a tempting machine.

Good engine spec and power output. No such thing as 20" Yenko wheels though, Atlas cast a copy of A.R. Torq Thrust 15" back in the day.

Hmmmmm.........Yenko went out of business 35 years ago........I wonder if these people had to buy the rights to use the name etc?

Powerful. Good handling car. With great brakes.

The regular SS doesnt have DCT but it has a quick 8 speed auto with a big very torquey motor and much less weight than the prev gen. When you jump on it, it moves!!

800bhp is all very well and good, but what of the interior plastics? Are they soft enough to the touch?

Marketing muscle cars is all about the number games. Highest power, fastest quarter mile, most torque, etc.

If Chevy really want to compete with Ford they'll have to get a new high score at Sidewalk Skittles.
