Pininfarina EF7 - update!

Carbon monocoque and more than 600hp confirmed for Fittipaldi-Pininfarina collab - build it!

More details have now been released on Emerson Fittipaldi and Pininfarina's Gran Turismo Vision concept car, the EF7; we now know it will have a carbon fibre monocoque and body, "giving it a unique advantage on the track."

There are no exact numbers, but weight will be around the 1,000kg mark and power from the naturally aspirated V8 will be over 600hp. "Both engine and gearbox are 'Fittipaldi' single manufacturer-made and seamlessly integrated", according to the press release, and the position of both is said to offer a unique centre of gravity.

As we already know, Pininfarina is lending its expertise to the design process of the EF7 and now HWA has been introduced as a collaborator. HWA is a German company that builds parts for Mercedes-AMG, runs DTM race cars and develops Formula 3 engines. "Owner-drivers can expect reliability, lower maintenance cost and minimal mechanic and tech teams - which means more time and elation on the track," added Fittipaldi.

The EF7 will be revealed at the Geneva Motor Show on March 7 and will be made available to race on Gran Turismo like all other Vision cars. The prospect of a production version remains as appealing as it is unlikely - let's see!

Original story 8/2/17
It's been a while since the world has seen a loopy Vision Gran Turismo car, so it's pleasing to report that we've not seen all of them just yet. Furthermore, this latest isn't a Golfcabrio or a Peugeot on 23-inch wheels; it's been designed by Emerson Fittipaldi.

Details on the EF7 are light at the moment, with more information set to be revealed in the days leading up to Geneva. Apparently Fittipaldi's aim with the car was to "apply all his track knowledge on creating a new experience that will elevate the driving ability of all used car enthusiasts from around the world." On the Fittipaldi website the car is described as "A champion's dream, German engineering and Italian design." Not a bad combination to start with then!

As with all these Vision creations, the car will be available in Gran Turismo at some point - expect a launch date soon. Beyond that the EF7's future is unknown; of course none of the concept cars have been produced thus far, but then none have been created between a design house and an old F1 driver either. Fingers very firmly crossed. Geneva looks like being a busy one!

So many questions...

Which aspects have been designed by Emmo?

Who will be engineering it in Germany?

Does the name mean that there have already been 6 prototypes?

OK, I'll bite - Just signed up to the email updates!

It's not going to be a diesel is it?

It's just Emmo has a history of drinking the wrong juice:

Presume it's named after his own F1 car, the F7 which he raced in the early 1980's.
