Mercedes-AMG E63 S 4Matic+ UK prices announced

Prices for 'basic' E63 and Edition 1 also revealed

Back in December last year, PH drove the new Mercedes-AMG E63 S 4Matic+, the first all-wheel drive AMG E-Class to come to the UK. Previously, all models were rear-wheel drive and thankfully that preference wasn't lost with the fully variable 4Matic+ system. Oh and the fact that Drift mode allows the driver to push all 612hp to the rear-wheels for plenty of drifts.

First deliveries of the E63 AMG will start in June this year and prices for the three models are as follows; the 'standard' E63 with 571hp starts at £78,935, the E63 S with 612hp at £88,295 and the Edition 1 at £106,585.

The Edition 1 is based on the E63 S on 20-inch AMG cross-spoke wheels, some special paint called design Selenite Grey Magno paint and the AMG Night Package, which adds black detailing on the side sills, black exterior mirror housing and a black front splitter. Extra detailing is in Titanium Grey with some yellow contrast stitching on the seats.

If you get the inkling to take the most powerful Mercedes road car on track, both the Edition 1 and S are available with optional carbon ceramic brakes whilst the optional upgraded performance exhaust will enhance the sound of that twin-turbo V8.

Wow... these aren't so much a fast saloon now, they're practical supercars. With the price tag to match.

Still glad they exist though.

Is the special edition really £18k more just for some aesthetic tweaks? Nothing functionally different at all?

What is it about Munich and 1990's retro disco interiors. The new C Class was classy, this is....less

I've no doubt that all the buyers of this car will use the full drift mode on the way to their kids school / the office / supermarket, even though it's as pointless as an ashtray on a motorbike.

they generally tick most of the options with the editions which is a big part of the price

stunning car, finally a viable alternative to the epic RS6

just have to hope they depreciate as fast as the RS6 smile

Is the basic version with a good discount (later) still the driver's pick? (more analog 'diff' and lighter?)

Looks amazing, and going by road tests great car

Although I can’t understand the point in these cars – things like this or an M5 or RS6* etc

  • Although the RS6/RS4 do at least look different that the equivalent diesel due to the flared arches but the BMW and Merc look no different than the non full fat AMG or M versions – i.e. the AMG Line or M Sport. Same with the M3 – its immediately stands out from a 330d/340i etc. due to the flared arches

But the performance of these big heavy super saloon – or estates – is now ridiculous.

Where does this end by the way – this car has 621HP - will the 2025 E63 have 800+hp?

I think it’s totally unnecessary this performance in an everyday car – which is what it is otherwise what is the point in it over a 458, Lambo, GT3 RS etc.

Something like 458’s or GT3 RS etc are different – they are proper sports cars and not every day cars and I can see the point in them

I know people who have bought brand new E63s and M5’s and didn’t keep them long as they got fed up going to the petrol station all the time. They sold them pretty quick and went back to the big diesel equivalents or bought a Range Rover!

It wasn’t the cost of the fuel [money was no object] but the hassle and they said they were pointless as an everyday car – ended up never using 90% of the performance they had.

I am not meaning to diss this car and am not trolling. I think it looks and sounds utterly amazing and maybe if I was in the position [I’m sadly not!] I would buy one and just put up with the frequent forecourt visits and tootle about not using 90% of the power but just enjoy the sounds from the V8…

But I probably would end up selling it in a 6 months

Sweet jesus, 106 grand. Huge spec I know, but that's a lot of money- even for the S non-Edition 1.

However, once they are a year or two old and 70k, what a huge amount of car for the money...

An S with a few bits and bobs on comes in at 96k, Jesus these are getting expensive those bits and bobs include things like metallic paint which incredibly isn't standard.

I think this is why they have slotted the E43 underneath just like BMW have added the M550i as the new M5 will also go up the price range.

I've had a new M5 but I won't be looking at either this E63 or the new M5, they are getting very pricey.

Get a standard 2 year old model for high-forties and remap to higher bhp than the S.

I think they've always undercut them.

As they do now. I think the OP forgot how much a supercar costs these days. A bare 911 Turbo will set you back 127k, and I bet my house it'll be equipped worse.
That's another 25% more than the Edition 1, and almost a whopping 40% over the E63 S.

I think it's the 100k treshold that makes it sound like "supercar" territory, but the supercar prices have moved past that a number of years ago.

True but a boggo 911 is a 77k car so paying 127k for the turbo doesn't seem that bad (for a Porsche the turbo is well equipped) these cars are based on 35k rep mobiles so 90k+ does for me start to stretch the elasticity of the segment.

77k seems a bit much for something with a drive train based on the same from VW Beetle I'd have thought.

Actually the RS6 holds value surprisingly well. Not great in the grand scheme but best in class at the moment - and selling fast if sensibly priced.

A 911 Carrera S costs 85k and would have similar performance and much better mpg

Not that it's a competitor

I was going to say this actually. RS6 values are holding up well. Possibly because it's seen as arguably the best RS car going at the moment.

A 100k car that looks like grandad's 30k Merc taxi on the outside and a 10k Toyota Aygo on the inside. Aahm oot.

That's just wanting to use numbers to prove your own right smile
A boggo e class does start at 35k, and it goes up to over 100k, but that extra (indeed, ridiculous) 70k does buy you 2 times the cylinders, 4 times the horsepower and tonnes of kit.
A turbo S is 145k, what does the exta 77k get you? Another 6 cylinder with not even twice the horsepower. Seems like you're being ripped off with that extra 70k tbh.
