New World Record

Ultima does it again!

The Ultima Factory - current holder of the 0-100mph-0 record - today went one better and beat its own record with a new time of just 9.8 seconds for the 0-100mph-0 sprint.  This is the first ever sub-ten seconds 0-100mph-0 recorded in the world!

The car used was a standard, factory production specification Ultima GTR, powered by a 377c.i 685bhp Chevrolet V8 engine built by American Speed (Original Equipment engine suppliers to Ultima). This engine is a standard part option available from the American Speed price list.

The GTR stormed from 0-60mph in 2.7secs and 0-100mph in 5.8 secs which are in themselves world record times, and braked from 100mph to zero in just 3.8 secs.

Richard Marlow, director of Ultima Sports Ltd and driver of the Ultima GTR during the world record run said, “Our new world record once again proves that the Ultima GTR is truly the fastest supercar currently available in the world today, and by a substantial margin.

“We are also currently installing a 640bhp engine into one of our other demonstrators, to be named the Ultima GTR640 in commemoration of all of our existing world records achieved with 640bhp. We look forward to the Stig taking on all comers around the Top Gear test track in our demonstrator - assuming of course that the BBC feel it is appropriate to give our British built sports car the opportunity to humiliate their current lap record holder the Ferrari Enzo.”

The Ultima GTR used on the successful record attempt was fully road legal, fitted with road tyres and was driven to and from the test venue. The world record was strictly conducted, overseen and verified by an official from Datron Technology who are acknowledged by the Guinness Book of Records and the motoring press as official timekeepers, using state of the art Microsat GPS equipment.

A submission has been sent to the Guinness Book of Records. Video footage and a full data sheet will be released next week.

Superb!

It would be an outrage if this doesn't appear on the top gear lap times.

Seeing the latest figures for the Veyrons weight, it might not even make a dent on any of the times set by this car... the lard box!

Ultima all the way

The lack of British sports cars on Top Gear has more to do with they fact that the prefer to cover newly launched/revised models. Compared to the rest of the car industry as a whole, the British sports car industry has far fewer new models out a year.

That said, if the Ultima doesn't make it on next series I will be very disappointed.

Simply

Excellent achievement - and to drive the car there and back, on road tyres etc,...does indeed humiliate some rather expensive 'exotic' machinery.

Well done Ultima!

It was a fantastic day at Millbrook, what I was shocked at was it was so consistant, with 10 runs that were faster than any other car and several below that magic 10sec barrier.

I hadn't watched the video of the previous run before but wow...how impressive is that?! I can't get over how short the distance taken to reach 100mph is...and the flame out the back after it stops are pretty cool too! :

Got to get the Stig in that, so we can have a British car on top of the Top Gear laptime table.

HOLY CRAP! That is amazing. I wish I could have been there! Way to go, G Man & Ultima Factory! What's next; 0-200-0?

How did they come up with the numbers? It appears a couple of tenths are missing. Was the driver's reaction time not included in the time-slices (?)...because it looks like the total should be 9.6 seconds; 5.8 to 100 and 3.8 to stop.

This was done at Millbrook on the mile straight, I think even an Ultima might struggle to do a 0-200-0 there

Nothing was said about a 0-200-0 as the car is going to do some posing around Oxfordshire next week ...
