driver training at millbrook in my gt2....
Discussion
thought i would share my recent experiences with you all of my driver training day at millbrook. i went through jeremy palmer of drivertrain uk.
the premise of wanting this training was to understand the dynamics of my car - i was concerned about how easy it was to spin the car, what one had to do to spin it and how easy would it be to regain control. millbrook provided the perfect setting due to the variety of tracks on offer to learn about the car in a safe environment.
the key thing i was tought was about balance. what effects it and how to maintain it. this point was at the heart of the day. by driving round for example a large circle at a variety of speeds and then either powering down or lifting off or indeed braking (hard with abs kicking in or softly without) produced a variety of different results (obvious)that helped me undertand the car and how it handles.
there was also a mini circuit to practice some racing techniques - looking for lines, how to use the width of the track etc. however the most valuable aspect of that part of the day was learning how to heel and toe. jeremy was saying he was amazed at the number of people who do lots of track days but do not know how to heel and toe. clearly i am no expert in the matter but i managed to get to a certain level of competence with this idea and the difference it made in this one small track was amazing.
i thoroughly rated my day with him - i have another now booked at the end of may to build upon the techniques learnt. i know there have been a couple of threads about driver training, and i think people on the look out could do a lot worse than jeremy.
i came out of the day feeling a lot more confident about my car (but not misguided confidence), but also aching to do lots of trackdays... got two booked but will be booking lots more. this is going to be an expensive love affair.

Sounds like a good days learning was had. How much did it cost and how long did it take. Oh, where is Millbrook BTW?
cheers

Millbrook is indeed near Bedford, but closer to the M1 (J13). It cost me £500 for a full days course - one on one all day though so it was intense.
I am SO glad I went on this. The money side is kind of irrelevent in my opinion. I could easily just hoon around mindlessly but never get to enjoy the car and its capabilities anything like I will start tp be able to. Then the money I spent on the car would be a complete waste. Might as well just have a go-kart.
Even just this basic technique of heel and toeing which I practised all the way to work and back in my wifes mini really made a difference to the journey. Really looking forward to Bedford on Friday to put into practice some of what I learnt.
I feel like I have found God! And he's living in my engine.... how convenient is that!
Amen.

Nah mate. You must be mistaken. God lives in a little village called Pfaffenhausen, Southern Germany. Met him last week.
