Odd quad bike hits the road

Fast and furious at 100mph

Odd quad but fast fun
Odd quad but fast fun
Here's something for the summer. GG Technik has launched a weird-looking but interesting quad bike. In the words of the company, it sports "aggressive headlights, like the eyes of a jungle cat set to pounce, powerfully supported by four wheels, with a lean, exciting waist and a very special rear section."

The GG-Quad is unique and fast, with a max speed of 100mph from a two-cylinder 1.1-litre boxer engine, pushing out 85bhp through a six-speed gearbox. "No vehicle can compare to the GG-Quad in any respect", said GG.

The first GG Quads have been delivered and production continues.

Depends, I think, on mudguards, lights etc. There's certainly a couple on the road around here.

I wonder if it will have to run a front number plate.

To be honest if I was going down that route I think I would prefer an Arial Atom

looks like fun and no Lid to wear, but doesn't it give you the worst of both worlds? You still get wet and you can't cut through traffic.

You do have to wear a helmet on all quads that are not registered as "Tractors" as mine is.

I think it only came legal recently. 5th Gear showed some test crash footage of one hitting the back of an MPV just afterwards.

There is a gut who drives one around Tooting SW London. It's got plates on front & back. Not very quick though, he got beaten off the line by a Rover 214 the other day

I like it, and I would imagine the cost of this differs a lot to that of an atom.

Can't see the point...

road tyres - no good off road
wider than a bike - can't thread through traffic
exposed to the elements/no storage - not as practical as a car

If you want to off road then a quad is fun I guess, if you want to go fast then a bike is good, if you want some space and don't mind sitting in the odd queue then a car is good.

Is it just me?

You sure? I thought quads were like M/cycle with sidecar or Trike in that a helmet wasn't compulsory?

A lot of things become clear when you click on the link to their website - they're Swiss.

Looks pretty cool with the paniers:

AFAIK you have to wear a helmet with a M/cycle combination as it is a bike, a trike however is a three wheeled car. The new regs class a quad as a 4 wheel bike unless as in the past you have all the legal requirements for it to be a tractor.

I'd prefer a Carver (quite expensive, though).

Nope, I can't see the point either. It's also got a relatively short wheel-base and a relatively high centre of gravity so I can't see it out performing a car.

People should either get a proper bike or stick with their pansy-foo-foo cars... don't pretend you've got balls
