Well,

As you may remember from many of my posts since September last year my engine has been rebuilt 3 times, the last in May 2002 returned to me on the 1st June.

Well since then I have had it serviced 2 times, 1st the 1000 mile after engine rebuild and then again at 6000 miles, both perfect, standard services that showed no problems.

The car has been running perfectly since then and have had no problems whatsoever.

Well went in 3 weeks ago for some paintwork touch up and a service to follow, well Brooklands, who I now know are no longer a TVR dealership, started the service on Thursday of last week with me due to pick the car up on Friday PM for the weekend.

I get a phone call from them Friday stating that the engine is knackered yet again.

As I am sure you would agree I was not to pleased, phone TVR to ask about timescales, warranties, loan car etc, they are not in? they finish at 2pm on Fridays......

What am I to do? My wife is not talking to me (which may not be a bad thing) she wants me to get rid of it and get a beemer, as they are reliable..... I am fed up with only having my car for 8 - 10 weeks at a time before it goes on holiday to Blackpool.

Sorry, that is bad luck, but a fair few Tuscan owners are going through the same trouble. I'm sure it's worth speaking to the factory direct and pointing out that it's the third time in a polite & constructive way. I guess Jason Oxley/Paul Forrest are your men.

Trade the Speed 6 for a 4.2 or 4.5?

Very bad news Martin,

Did the garage say what the new problem was?
Let us know what TVR say... I hope they are going to do all this work for free and sort you out a loan car !

That is bad bad news....shifting laterally for a second...if you buy a computer and it keeps blowing up then are you not entitled by European Law to a new one after they have tried to repair it and it blows again..or a refund of the initial amount ?? I am sure a legal buff will correct me .The least they could do (especially if the car is financced is give you a payment hoiliday - why should you pay for something you rarely ever have ?? And it is their fault... Just a thought ??

What seems to be the problem with it???

The fault does have to be the same thing, but if they have tried to fix it three times or more, I think it is then classed as "reoccurring" and you could then be in a good position to argue for a new vehicle or at least some kind of replacement.

Try contacting the motoring press, they are usually quite interested to help.

Alternatively, if you are really at the end, have you considered a small claims court???

Although the maximum award is £5k, you are recommended to defend yourself, so your total cost is v. minimal.

Read the Tuscan section for some of the Speed 6 problems - this is hardly news.

If you have had that many problems with that engine i would think there could be a inherant defect with the block or something reducing oil flow or something i would demand a replacement engine not a rebuilt item i would think that would be the least they could do or get them to give you PW's Tuscan R as a replacement while yours is in for repair.

I think that a replacement engine is certainly in order. This is ridiculous.

While watching the Tuscans at Donington yesterday the talk as always was TVR's, which model to buy next etc, well with every new TVR model getting the S6 engine in some shape or form and the questionable reliablity it's about time they dropped the engine in the Tuscan Challange cars a season in them should sort them out

Thanks for all your suggestions, Jason Oxley is getting a call tomorrow from me to discuss this exact issue, he is not in today.

I can tell you that I have had a new / recon block from the last build so I do not think the problem is there, it appears from what the garage has told me today the the problem lies with the timing chain.. not being too technically minded and having done a search I can see that this could affect the block.

My biggest concern though is that the engine worked, although it did sound more rattley than normal for about 500 miles before it went in for it's service, there was no immediate concern.

I must admit, that I am losing confidence in this S6 engine it works very well when it runs but it does seem to be prone to failure, I really hope they get it fixed because I love the cars......

That really is not on and there is probable recourse legally. Good luck Martin.

If you were at Redgate you possibly wouldn't have seen the chaos caused by an AJP V8 letting go at Schwanz. We had just walked over there when there was a large bang, litres of oil and then the Tuscan version of the 'Swan Lake'. Very amusing...

Without intending to sound extremely unpleasant, IMO this might lead to the factory being engine-wise out of stock rather quickly

(no offence intended, but it is SO depressing to always read about this Speed 6 engine never-ending horror story)

The quality of the some of the rebuilds done by TVR lately (on any engine) has been subject to great concern by many owners. Not surprising after listening to a few horror stories from some owners at the TVR performance days, I dread the thought. After a knocking noise in the engine bay in my cerbera turned out to be a 'needle roller bearing' that had been chewed, thankfully mine didn't need a rebuild.

It's just the AJP part took over three weeks to turn up i.e. person who knows the part number/authorise was on holiday etc. Then a 'oil seal' took another week or so and then turned up as the wrong part .

Prior to this, my ECU needed repairing and that took TVR seven and half weeks .

So mine's been off the road for 3 months in the last 6, all due to waiting for parts from the TVR factory. And this isn't even a rebuild !!!!

If they don't sort it out soon then TVR are fast becoming the 'skoda' joke of this decade.

So lets pray your problem can be fixed quickly !!!

At times I miss my cerbera but at times like this when I can see TVR putting themselves firmly at risk to Mr Cockup with the new engines they insist upon , which in turn damage all resale values of ALL TVR's not just speed sixes that I am happy I switched into a 355....come on TVR sort it out and you would be amazed how many of us would return to the fold over the next few years....
