Volvos and lights
Discussion
What is it with volvos always having lights on during the day, almost half of all the volvos i see do this, p***es me right off. Is it just the interiors being so dark or do they thing their superior.
Also how annoying is it when your already doing 75 80 even 90 on the mway and some chump decides to dazzle you to the point that you almost feel your head about to explode. Am i the only one who just slows down and waits for them to move over (if they ever do) without flashing etc.

It's because Volvo wires them that way.
You can't turn them off.
They can be turned off by the dealer but that costs money. And, don't forget, this country nearly signed up to some EU law about all new cars having Daytime Running Lights - wouldn't just have been Volvos then.
(Spoken as a Volvo driver who happens to think that everyone should have them on all the time!)

It's done to satisfy legislation. In Scandanavian countries, there was an agreement by the motor manufactureres to have lights on, due to the weather conditions, during the winter months (october to march IIRC)... and it's easier to wire them ON. Seem to recall that large fines are dished out to drivers who don't have lights on.
Same applies in Poland I believe...

Saab sell cars outside of their home market without lights on... as they recognise that people who might buy their car in sunny Spain, may not want Daylight Running Lights...
Volvo, for some reason sell it as a "safety feature".
Seem to recall there was talk of the EU making DRL's compulsory... now where did I put that?

Its a safety thing , Denmark Sweden , Norway , Finland ,and i used to think it was stupid until i moved over here ,you do get some strange light conditions over here and in some light conditions i think running lights are a really good thing .
Yeh me too I used to think have em on compusory from say oct to march. Then I thought but i got knocked off my motorbike when i had the light on in the early dusk of winter and if every one had lights on all the time motorbikes would stand out even less, so now I think cars shouldnt have them on all the time as there is enough motobike carnage on the roads due to drivers not seeing bikes....
