I gather that Toyo are phasing out the T1-S tyres and replacing them with the newer T1-R . Does anyone have experience of both on their Tiv and care to recommend one over the other?
I currently have T1-s's all round, but am looking to replace the rear tyres....

Will do. I've got a nice big trek up to Anglesey for a trackday at the end of July, so I should be able to give a full report....

Spoke to the garage owner and the T1-R is the same compound as the S - but with a stiffer shoulder to stop wearing the edge away.

I'll be putting T1-R's on mine..

I upgraded my boots to R's from S's 3 weeks ago. To tell you the truth I can't really tell the difference. Other than I like them alot..

Cheers.

Some photos would also be useful.

Hmmm, may not be too bad a choice. The tread blocks on the S are continuous to the outer edge
www.toyo.co.uk/index.php?fuseaction=car.t1-s whereas the outer drainage channels on the R www.toyo.co.uk/index.php?fuseaction=car.t1-r can fuse together on trackdays:

I changed from S03's to TR1S'ssss abount 5 weeks ago and I am very impressed..

I liked the fact that the TR1S'sss were good straight from the box - no need to run them in ..

The ride was a great improvement - they have a really softside wall compared to S03's - this suited my hard (adjustable) suspension very well.

The compound seems soft (same as S03) - so I'm sure wear will be high - but I do not do a high milage - so expect to be changing a complete set every 2 years anyway - I hate it when tyres go hard after a few years and don't give their best..

Impressed so far..

They are the older 's' model - without the harder sidewall..

Had the S's all around for a few years and I was very happy. Better handling than the Bridgestones, in the dry and in the wet, and more comfortable too.
Now have R's at the rear and sofar don't like them much; they have become better after bedding in and lowering the pressure to 21 psi (the S's were on 24 at the rear), but they feel more unstable, especially on the track.

I would go for the S's any time.

I've had both the S and the R on my 205 Mi16 and prefered the S's by quite a margin. They just felt more predictable and had more overall grip than the R's. I'm not sure about the comment regarding both being the compound for this reason, and also the R's lasted longer on my pug. Maybe that's because they didn't get quite such a hard time because of the feel of them though.

I've now switched back to S's and am over the moon with them. It's time for another change though and I'm finding it difficult to find S's at a decent price. Any other suggestions? What do people think of Eagle F1's?

Woah! Thats a hell of a thread revival!

In answer to your question, I've run with T1-R's and Eagle F1-s on the Chim and I'm actually not sure which I prefer. I loved the T1-R's greatly and found them very progressive, great in the wet and just felt lovely to drive on (compared to Bridgestone S0-3PP's which I thought were rubbish). I have now switched to Eagle F1's but on larger rims with lower profile so I'm not sure I can still compare them directly. They do feel very progressive, lovely in the wet and give a surprising amount of grip on the track. I'd be happy if someone gave me either tyre on my car smile

Edit: Oh and welcome to PH, being your 1st post and all!

Chassis dynamics and drive are significantly different too. I don't think the comment is relevant to TVR's

R888 are the ones to go for, but only in dry weather, ok on wet roads, but terrible with any type of standing water

Probably a waste of time on a road car though, as they'd rarely get properly warmed. smile
