I nicked this from the Makosi get out thread

Does anyone have in more info on whether the contestants of Big Brother get paid for the time they spend in the house?

Quitting your job and sitting on your ass for X amount of weeks being filmed is not working

iirc they get paid the minimum wage for appearing on Big Brother. (£4.70? * 11? * 7 * 24 = £8685.60)

Please tell me you are joking, they dont really get paid for being in that house doing nothing for 8 weeks.

If thats true then do they get paid for the time they are asleep

I'm pretty sure it is true. To appear in a TV programme you must get a fee (probably to create the contract) and because of the nature of the programme your fee is ongoing, so they have to be paid the min wage.

Can't say for sure but I thought they got something - read it somewhere.

Why shouldn't they be paid?

Would it be also safe to assume that a (not small) proportion of the show's revenue was/is paid by the saps who vote using their mobile phones/Sky boxes? If so, the UK public have been paying their wages!!! lol

I read somewhere too that they get paid. It's not a lot, just a couple of quid an hour to take care of mortgages, direct debits, etc. while they aren't working.

Yep, I would have thought that they were.

Even the nicest of bosses is harly likely to let an enployee go off for 2 mths on full pay. And some of them have still got to pay the council tax, electric, gas, water, sewerage, mortgage, BT line rental, car insurance, house insurance, life insurtance, endowment, etc.

Thats pretty obvious really, all these "vote" things on BBLB and then the main voting every week for evictions, then online crap and all that.

They rake most of their money in from the viewers directly, not through advertising (but that will still be a huge amount I expect).

Still, I only voted twice, so for £1 for alot of quite funny entertainment and making me feel better about my life, well worth it

And Talk Talk are crap, so their advertising was a waste of time.

Perhaps the partners of the people who watched this dross ought to get compensation, instead of the people in the house earnig a wage whilst in there. Constant screeching and artifically made up dramas.
Dunno 'bout you, but I'd rather watch professional actors in professional productions, and I don't have to phone vote to feel good about it!
