I don't belive that 180 bhp will give 10 second 1/4's. Probably 12 to 13 seconds.

Well no not in a normal car but, the power to weight ratio is phenominal.

Dont forget it's extrememly light.

10 sec. is impossible!

The SBD Westfield needs 10.87! 1600cc 16v, 417kg and 260bhp.

Ok then, but he didn't say 10 seconds on the dot.

How fast could a Hyabusa do a 1/4 mile in?

I also think 12,x or 13,x seconds with a normal engine.

Do any bike engine westfields fancy a trip to a drag racing strip next spring? My Westield will leave probably all bike engine cars in the rear view mirror. My new engine (built by Ray Web of V8 Developments) is just about to be installed. Subject to the engine dyno results I should have 330 to 340bhp and 350 lbs.foot of torque. The car current weights 710kg but can be tweaked to 660 to 670kg if need be!

To be honest dudfieldjp I doubt you would leave them standing. I suggest you actually look at the performance figures of such things as the BEC of westfield and Dax. eg DAX hybussa turbo > 770bhp/ton, westfield standard hybussa = 175 @ 450kg = 395BHP/Ton. Whilst yours boasts approx 500bhp/ton the added effects of a light car is easier to accelerate (momentum laws). Hence the phenominal performance of BEC.

One final part is that the BEC will also corner incredibly well, due to their lightness and balance of weight. The V8 will always be a compromise and goes against the Chapman principal ie "performance through lack of weight"

I would have thought the drag strip race would simply be BEC goes fastest for the first part, V8 catches up and overtakes on latter half. I'm sure your V8 would win on the drag strip but on a track the BEC would produce better lap times (as has been discussed before with the V8 versus superlights).

Its horses for courses let us know how your car gets on.

Joost, you also have to think about the characteristics of a BEC, they are completely different from a car engine with similar or greater power. Car engines power is to do more with torque whilst bikes is all revs. I don't think its a simple matter of comparing BHP per ton.

Certainly the reviews of the Dax and Westfiled BEC all talk about smashing the 0-100-0 records so its not inconceivable that the 1/4 mile could also be 10 seconds. Either way there is little doubt that the BEC is quick off the mark!

Smeagol, For sprinting power to weight is very important. I agree with you that there are some very fast BEC. But a stock Megabusa is not that fast (for sprinting). To do a 10.x time you need a special (in fact a very special).

Here you can find some 1/4 mile times of Westfield V8:
www.seight.com/
The best V8 did a 11,9 run!
It is quick but look at the time of the Westfield 1600cc SBD car.
