I know that this has been probably posted before, but i wanted to know what people thought about or had any experience with uprated front brake pads form the like of

Reddot
Predator
Mintex 1144
EBC Greenstuff
Ferrodo Ds Range

I only use the car for tootling, fast road and wanted to upgrade are they any good ?, which ones are the best ? , or are there any different types out there which are better ?, I am going to upgrade the front disks to either Turbo groove EBC's or Reddot 20 groove cross drilled, What do you think or know ?.

Thanks

If you're a nutter, stay away from drilled discs (they are vulnerable to cracking and catastrophic failure when severely overheated). I've used M1144 (because they were cheap, and better than standard tat) but really not too impressive against the other compounds. Tarox XF better than M1144 (temp rating and grip levels). EBC Green not much bite for the first second or so in really cold weather, but an extremely high temp rating. Also very high disc wear rate though. I know a couple of people who have cracked and overheated discs using EBC green, possibly because they work so well at high temperatures that the driver keeps pushing too hard and overheats the rotors. But I never had any trouble with them.

Thanks for the reply Pete, I Spoke to a chap at hyperformance Direct and he advised me that the 6 groove reddot discs would be more than adequate for the way i use the car, as for pads i am having a job in sourcing them such as mintex or tarox, where to you get them from ? , Part numbers etc for front 240mm discs, pads, nobodoy down here (Wales) seems to list them, i know the car uses ford discs but i can't seem to cross reference them against other models and manufacturers.

So it's better to stick to grooved discs, rather than cross drilled ?, thanks i'll bear this in mind.

Mintex 1144,Tarox XF and Ferrodo DS2500 always with grooved disks
For track use better Mintex 1155 or Ferrodo DS3000

In the Racing Peugeots ,Group N (Normal) category they use Ferrodos DS3000 with normal brake rotors
And they finished the race

Its my understanding that Drilling the disks isnt really required any more as the pads dont gas up like old ones, and its only grooving them that actually does anything these days ( look at any race car and the disks are grooved but not drilled)

Having dsaid that i have got 300mm drilled and grooved disk on the front of mine. they work fantasticly but thats probably the disk/caliper rather than the fact they are drilled...

On the PAd front i've got EBC's at the moment, and have found them very un predictalable when cold.

they some time work, they somtimes dont somtimes they pull to the left sometimes to the right, when they a re even slightly warm they are fantastic, but i think i will try somthing else.

I never thought much about brake pads untill we started playing with them in the race taz, the brakes were crap ( at Oulton i lost them after three flying qualifiers and desitegrated the pads !!) Then we changed to a Ferodo racing compound ( off an aston or somthing) and the change was total.... work from cold, no fade and fantastic stoppping power and modulation unreal...

Not sure what the doner car is for the 240mm disks (ford, but which one?). If you identify what they are then this supplier has been used by other models before and seem reasonable www.rmcarspares.co.uk/acatalog/intro.html I've not used them myself.
As shpub will say though, there are lots of doner cars for Tivs and what bits were fitted to yours is dependent on what day of the week it was put together at the factory and what the phase of the moon was , so double check before parting with the readies .

Most places don't have any idea about TVR parts and those that do generally seem to get it wrong in my experience. I worked out my V8S had '93 Escort on the front (XR3 rings a bell but I seem to remember it didn't actually make any difference once I knew it was 240mm) and Sierra P5 estate (250mm solid) on the rear, and took it from there.

Don't know for sure yours is the same caliper but the diameter is the same so it's likely. Quick shufti through my records shows the following part numbers used on mine: Mintex (front) M1144 MDB1175 (rear) M1144 MDB 1287 Tarox (front) XF (fast road) #1014.

Hope you can get a match from these. Remember these parts are for mine and may not match your!

a combination of EBC grooved discs and Pagid fast road pads works well on my car, which is almost identical to yours. the greenstuff pads cracked on both sides.

Noel Flannery (V8 sports) supplied the discs by post from Edinburgh. He's on 07980 652 447.

I have used RM carspares for EBC Discs and Pads, and Plugleads for the S.. a good price and nextday delivery too.. I would highly reccommend them.

Thanks for all the replies and for all the info , theres plenty here to look into, as for the discs Pete V8S sounds like there the same as yours, rear discs off a granada and front off mk4 escort 240mm.

Just spotted a set off brembo grooved discs on larkspeed.com for a mk4 escort/orion for £49, so i rang up and asked for the price of the same brembo discs for my TVR and guess what £130 it's amazing how the price differs seeing that they are the same discs for both cars. Found a good link below for info on discs, pads ,etc.

Try it www.exford.co.uk/Brakeworld/Appguide/

Just to sound a warning... it appears from the many measurements I have made of the front brakes that the TVR front assembly is a matched unit with cllipers, discs and callipers all coming as a set. This means that the many different 240 and 260 mm discs may have been used as they have different offsets and this is then used to match everything up.

This means that you shound absolutely make sure that the discs are exactly the same. A difference of 1 mm is all that is needed in the offset to make the disc not fit. The same is also true of pads as well as EBC quote about 10 different sizes with different pad areas and so on. Some fit some callipers... some don't.

The moral is measure and check. DO NOT rely on part number in parts lists. As Pete says... the numbers he quoted fit his car not yours...
