Strange sills...

Anyone else found this?

I bought a couple of 'S'stainless steel sill guards and fitted them over the weekend,only to find that the sill on the passenger side is about 12mm thinner than that on the drivers side.
As both sill guards supplied are the same width I had to jigsaw off the extra down one entire side.
Then the sill on the drivers side was so uneven that I had to screw the centre of the guard down otherwise it kept popping up off the stick pads provided.

Overall result...well look quite good but think they are going to scratch pretty quickly in use and the cutting resulted in scratches already.

Any one else fitted them or fancy measuring their sills...
why would TVR have made them different sizes???. Ideas?

My S2 is the same. I fitted rubber ribbed matting to the sills (don't like the shiny metal variety, but need to protect the white bodywork). I measured and cut for the offside first (fortunately), then copied this for the nearside. Then I found I had to trim off half an inch as the n/s (false) sill is narrower.

I know that some of the older TVRs are asymmetric, so perhaps this is just tradition!

I made my own from some stainless sheet, they polished up well and they are also different widths on my S2, held on by double sided carpet tape, very sticky stuff.

So anyone want to conjecture why they would make the two sills different widths?
Is that the case on later cars?
Seems a very odd thing to do and I can't think why.

The two sides are made from different molds which are made by hand, if they come out looking roughly similar that's considered a success.

Lets hope things have moved on a bit at Blackpool since the S then!
