All,

Since having my RSRs fitted a few weeks back, I notice that every time I park the car up there is a faint burning smell from the rear end.

The smell is somewhere between melting plastic and smoking solder.

Any ideas what this could be?

I posted before about experiencing a slight loss of low down grunt since having the RSRs fitted, could this be related to the burning smell?

It's probably just paint or something else burning off them. Should go away at some time.

Lack of power could be a back pressure problem. You need to remap if you change exhausts or they can do more harm than good to power etc.

Have you correctly aligned the boxes? Did you re fit using the heat shields...

If things are a little tight you could be heating up or nearly melting the rear PU (bumper). It is not that uncommon to see a heat altered rear on a 993.

Not sure about the power assuming you don't have any leaks, I was one of the few to return my RSR as they gave less power than standard and put the car over the quiet noise limit on trackdays. Other than that a fine product!

Heat shields were renewed when the RSRs went on - all done by JZM.

So you noticed a drop in power with the RSRs too?

Last track day I did I read 102db on the static test, but that was before the RSRs. Noisy days only for me now!

I got the same smell after having a brand new rocker cover and gasket fitted recently...I also seem to remember a 'hot' smell after my RSRs were done.
Remember these cars get very hot at the back end. As long as it's not on fire I wouldn't worry.

Steve at JZ did a power run before and after my RSR's were fitted on my old 993, it had been remapped prior to the first remap, it showed a loss of power, but they did sound nice!

Did he remap it to get the power back after fitting the RSRs?

I'm thinking of taking it down to them to do just that, but I don't wanna keep throwing money at this if it's not gonna work.

If I can't get the low/mid range response back, I'm tempted to go back to stock cans, but I'll miss that sound!
