We have that here – take clients to a strip bar and you’ll get thrown out as it is regarded as unacceptable. In a way, fair enough – companies protect their reputations and as client events are ‘during the course of business’ and on expenses, they have a right to set parameters. It’s not as if these guys were fired for going to a strip club on their own time.

Morgan Stanley has also faced accusations of racism and homophobia after it fired the US stock analyst Christian Curry for allegedly fiddling his expenses. Mr Curry, who is black, sued the bank, claiming that he was punished for posing in a gay porn magazine.

So in this brave new PC world it is OK to pose in a gay porn mag but not to visit a strip club?

Oh rubbish Jaglover old son! Businesses have always sought to protect their reputations in some way, and taking clients to strip clubs is about as macho/80’s and exclusionary of women as it is possible to be. Claiming that this is PCness, rather than response to a simple evolution in what is acceptable and what isn’t, is a bit naïve. In the eighties in my business it was perfectly acceptable to lunch all afternoon and get totally hammered. Not so anymore – things change.

sorry jaglover but I think that's bollox

shirley it's innappropriate to take clients to a strip bar on a corporate entertainment evening? I cannot see how it would be acceptable, my boss would literally kick me out the door if I did that!

OTOH if they struck up a friendship and went to a sript bar out of works hours, well that is shirley ok.

slightly reactionary to say it's political correctness IMHO it's just good business practice I reckon.

as an aside jaggy, I often think you post in 'headlinese'

edit: looks lilke harry F is there before me

So it's a sackable offence to visit a strip club...... but fine to pose in porno mags and fiddle your expenses ( providing your the right colour and gender preference)

Lunching all afternoon takes up worktime.

If the bankers in question visited the club in the evening with clients then they are giving up their own free time to socialise with them. an action for which they should be commended not fired. A lads evening out can not possible damage the reputation of the firm, except among sour feminists who are unlikely to be clients in any case.

Total hypicrisy of course - although I agree with Harry and Minimax. It does smack of macho '80s-style exclusion to have a corporate jaunt to a strip club and I don't think it's PC to rap someone over the knuckles for doing so (surely there must have been women in that delegation, what did they tell them to do, go home early?) - we live in a world of supposed equality and they should be prepared to either all visit both a strip club and a chippendales show, or go to neither and find something else to do - most companies settle on the latter.

As for the gay porn mag bloke - if I was his boss and I found out, I'd say 'do one or the other, you choose. In fact, you've been fiddling your expenses, so I've chosen for you - f*** off!'.

You are joking right? A reputation of a firm most certainly can be damaged by these sorts of actions. Just becasue the clients they went with approve it doesn't mean that other clients that hear about this also approve. This could result is lost business. And companies protect this.

As for your comments on it being unlikely sour feminists will be clients in any case ... I think you had better go back to your cave!

And everyone quotes Timmy. It's just a bloody popularity contest on here isn't it? No wonder I didn't get onto anyones list, no-one ever listens to me. Harrumph indeed.

Whatever happened to having a private life, outside of work? if the company want to pay for your time 24/7, then by all means, but they don't. Where are the civil rights people when you need them!

But they won't, the sour feminists mainly work in the state sector, venting their bitterness about the male chauvinistic pigs in University lectures or memos.

How many are among the clients of such institutions?
