Hi there, i've just joined

Sorry about the first posting, pressed the return key by mistake.

I've been reading about problems associated with the six speed ZF6HP26 automatic gearbox which is fitted to some Jaguars and BMWs i.e. issues such as lurching, gears snatching etc etc.

Does anybody know if these problems are just software related or whether the actual hardware design is at fault. The article written about this gearbox did mention ZF engineers using a new design concept to produce this 6 speed unit?

Only heard it about it on the S-Type. Look at www.thelurch.com

I have the new XJ with this gearbox and have had the lurching problem. It is definitely a software problem. There have been a number of software releases to fix the problem. I have just had the latest version installed and the change is now superb - no lurching and a seamless change. Your dealer will be able to do very easily.

My S type diesel suffered with squawk originally and then developed lurching problems. After three visits Jaguar have finally agreed to change box.
What a shame they took so long spoiling enjoyment of otherwise excellent car
Hopefully new box will be good and smooth

Strewth - I have complained for literally years, and they never changed my gearbox.

This lurching is still appearing on many owners cars.

Just back from a day at the Geneva Motor Show - talked with an Aston Martin representative, who previously worked for Jaguar - He gave me a wry smile and acknowledged that they knew about the lurch.

If you want a text book example of how not to treat a customer ... I'm your guy.

I have had the new 'flash' (tsb issued jan 06) which is claimed to have cured the lurch. Since having it done, the change is so much smoother and have yet to experience the return of the lurch. One of the things to look out for though - if you put it in 'sport' mode before 200 miles since the flash - it wipes out the programme.

Do you have details about the 06 TSB ? I'd be very interested in that.

What is the cost of the new software installed?

I have a 2005 XJ Diesel and I've got the lurching problem, my dealer has told me that having re-flashed the gearbox software 3 times now Jaguar have told them to replace the gearbox so hopefully in the next week or so it should be sorted.
