There has been some discussion over in JapChat on the 1UZFE V8 & other favourite Jap engines over the last few months.
Great engine, extremely well designed, engineered & built. A standard mid-'90s N/A is putting out around 260 bhp at that level it is so unstressed it's almost just ticking over. Plenty of turbo conversions, & even one or two in aeroplanes iirc.
This site has some very useful stuff & links.

p.s. If it's any use, there was an article in PPC a few month back on alternates to small block V8's, which included the Lexus 1UZFE V8.
Cheers

I'm building two Cobra replicas that have Lexus V8's, 1UZFE's to be exact.

They are a lovely engine to work on, extremely reliable and easily tunable. Respond extremely very to bit of Forced Induction up to 8 psi on standard internals and up to 12 psi with aftermarket ECU. Put in low compression pistons and youre looking at a reliable 16 to 20 psi boosted V8 putting out over 500bhp.

I must say that having built a Cobra with the 4.4 litre BMW V8 the Lexus is as good, and definitely easier to work on.

As mentioned www.lextreme.com is a fantastic resource on these engines and just what backyard engineers can do with them and theres a growing tuning scene with manual gearbox conversions and transaxle conversions becoming common.

If you want any info/ pictures etc I've got one engine on the floor and the other in a Cobra, so just ask away.

Cheers,

Tony

There is one in a Lexsu Soara import in my local scrapy that I'm sure would go for cheap money. Only problem is thinking of something to put it in ( havn't finished the project I'm building at the moment )
