In answer to zumbruk's thread - mine has just let go. Took it in for 30,000 mile service. The dealer said they were worried about a louder that average ticking from the head, took it off and the followers are excessively worn.

Couldn't have come at a better time - am getting married in July, planning to buy a house (on today's house prices ) and the warranty expired six months ago.

Have been told that it could run anywhere from 2-4.5k depending on the work needed, but they can't tell until they've got the engine out.

I am completely at a loss as to what to do - can't see me getting to Le Mans at this rate .

Cheers Podie. Can't believe how gutted I am. Having this happen to such a loved car feels remarkably like having a friend stab you in the back.

Sorry to hear that Gordon. If it is just the top end then it should be the lower end of the cost range :fingerscrossed:

Other things to think about whilst the engine is out would be a new clutch and a gearbox recon - it still costs you the item/recon cost but saves on the labour.

Gearbox is not a bad idea, although clutch has only done a few thousand miles (lunched itself last year in spectacular style)

Sorry to hear it - it wasn't me, honest!

(I only brought it up because I'm considering changing to a Tuscan, except I've done way too good a job of keeping my wife^Wmanagement informed of the, er, issues.)

Bad news indeed Gordon - hope things work out but you have my sympathies. Same thing happened to me last year 4 days before a trip to Italy

Weeeellll.... I've been speaking to the chaps today and they've got the engine out and had a look and confirmed that it is indeed "only" top-end damage .

They've already got the new cams and followers on order (which apparently are not in short supply at the mo) so they reckon I'll have the car back for some time next week. I must say, stirling work from the boys at Drivestyle

Assuming I can find a way of money juggling (i.e. forget robbing Peter to pay Paul, rob 'em both!) then I should be able to collect it, put 500 miles on it and have it checked over before Lems.

Apart from the money front, then things are looking up a bit. I will be able to go on (a well-earned) holiday, and I will be able to take my car!
