Has anyone had any experience of putting a Chimaera 5.0 HC on a dyno and if so, just how far short of 340bhp and 340 ft/lb was it? I'm sure there are many differences but from what I've read on the subject, TVR seem a little optimistic !

Take a look at the Rover V8 threads in the Engines section of the Gassing Station and you'll get a good idea.

Remember that the 340bhp number quoted is a manufacturers comparison number measured by an engine dyno - not a rolling road. This will be a basic stripped engine with no ancilliaries etc.......

Just to help you,

my 4.5 Chim, with Sports Exhaust, Mark Adams Tornado Chip, Carbon Fibre Trumpets AND DePreCats is 'only' 263 Bhp..... (283 Ft/lbs)

I think your 5 will be nearer 280-300 bhp, if you got a GOOD ONE!...

We have done a plethera of tests on a standard 5.0HC TVR engine and will have the graphs posted soon (www.v8developments.co.uk). The basic standard engine makes approx 265 - 280 BHP on our dyno. I must stress that this is on our dyno (an engine dyno not rolling road) we do not wish to get into the 'are the figures accurate' argument .. better to compare like for like. The engine is tuneable from this figure however and we have achieved as much as approx 320BHP normally aspirated and still on the hotwire injection system. It is definately more sensible to look at this as a gain of 55BHP rather than a concrete horsepower figure but it does at least show the possibilities.

So Puma Racing's "rule of thumb" calculation seems to work here---subtract 10% from manufacturer's figure plus 10bhp gives 278bhp here.

Hmm, not good figures are they! Well, good but not as you'd expect.

Thanks for the info folks.
