From next year it's going to be illegal to sell/buy cellulose paint or 2-pack paint in the UK.
Will it still be available in OZ?
All we are to be allowed by our 'nanny' gov't is waqter-based which is not really suitable for spraying anywhere other than a properly equipped spray shop.I'm about to buy large quantities of Tartan Red and Old English White, plus lots of thinners and high-build primer and just hope that it keeps in the long term.

ah, but then you will be in violation of rule 3 subsection 45 line 6 'storing of dangerous chemicals at home'

and rule 3456 subsection 34 'trying to beat the nanny state'

never mind the possible 'carbon footprint' your house will make if it sets on fire..........

best sell the lot and give up eh pete????

We'll have the 'paint police' around then. That will be after the 'electrical DIY police' to check that I haven't done any wiring in my own home and the 'plant police' to make sure I don't have any cannabis plants (as if!). Followed by the 'council tax police' to ensure I haven't got a nice view from my house which could be taxed.
To think my old Dad went away to WW2 to preserve our freedom!

You are ing well joking? Do you realise that 2% of the CO2 (plant food gas) annually released comes from CHINESE coal seam fires. How about banning those? Paint is really all. The volatile organics do all to the atmosphere and are probably negligable to the evaporation from tar lakes, from oil seeping from rock formations and gas being released from strata.

ing whitehall or is it bloody europe? GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!

its easy.

in this new touchy feely lentalist tony blair world new cars are considered green and cuddley (never mind the energy used to make them)

doing up old cars is bad for the enviroment - never mind that its a form of energy saving and recycling its seen as eliltiest and therefore bad

its the same as everything else - ban foxhunting to have a go at the toffs who do it, britain becomes overun with maimed and injured foxes, dont smack kids, britain becomes overrun with ferral little f**kers who dont give a toss, implement stupid health and saftey laws that cover every angle of work - british factories no longer able to compete with foreign imports.

one day the nation will wake up and actually do something about the fools who are in charge!!!!!

grrrr rant over!

I've no doubt it will still be possible to buy cellulose paint for non-automotive applications. For example, the ban will not apply to industrial or agricultural applications. You'll be allowed to spray your combine harvester or your cabin cruiser with cellulose or 2-pack, but not your classic car, as I understand it. Maybe I'll just buy it through my friend who owns the local boat marina. The problem could be getting the right colour. For example, what is BMC Tartan Red as a BS colour or what is the mix ratio of the various colours that make up this shade?
What shall I do this weekend? I think I'll creosote my garden fence this weekend - oh no, that's illegal as well and the 'creosote police' might come around. I know, I'll take some old plasterboard up to the tidy-tip. On, no, plasterboard is banned and the 'plasterboard police' might spot me doing it. I know, I'll fit my new gas fire in my lounge. Oh, no, I need a Corgi registered fitter or I may have the 'gas appliance police around'. Perhaps I'll go around to my friends motor business and help him and listen to the radio whilst we work. Oh no, it's illegal to play the radio if anyone else might hear and the 'radio police' might come around. Also it's illegal for me to work for him, even if unpaid, as his insurance would not cover me and the 'health and safety police' might come around.
WTF is happening in this country. How long before we are not allowed to work on our cars without a gov't issued 'Certificate of Approval' as a motor fitter, renewed annually at the cost of £500 after a training course and examination (all at your own expense). It'll happen sometime one might be sure.
Cynical, moi?

That article only mentions isocyanate-based paint, i.e. two-pack which is the realy nasty stuff you need breathing equipement to spray. Cellulose paint is a different thing entirely.
