Snapped: new W12 7-series

Is this 770Li real or badge-engineered?

BMW 770Li?
BMW 770Li?
Is BMW about to bring out a top-end, long wheelbase 7-Series – with a VW/Audi-style W12 engine under the bonnet?

That’s one conclusion to be drawn from this photo, snapped by eagle-eyed PHer vinceh in London this week. If true, it would push the top end of BMW’s price list even higher -- the 760Li currently sports a tag of £83,730 -- and the performance of Munich's portly 2,255Kg luxo-barge even higher; the 445bhp 6-litre V12 in the 760Li will power it to 62mph from rest in a highly respectable 5.6 seconds.

Alternatively, maybe someone’s just having a larf with some badges...

Oh, that's upsetting. Who's he trying to fool?

It's like the guy near me who had a E36 316i touring (in that famous M colour, Evergreen), which he de-badged and replaced with an M badge. Then he upgraded to an identical E46, complete with M badge. Eek.

thats a shame, the thought of BMW producing a 7.0 W12 was quite exciting

Plus it is a pre-FL model so I thought there was some badge engineering at work there.

To give the guy credit, it is very well done. Looks just like a factory job.

Does make you wonder what motivates a bloke to go to such a lot of trouble. Wouldn't the creative effort be better directed at earning more money to update his jam jar to whatever it is he really aspires to?

I can't believe the ego or lack of self-esteem that require people to pretend their cars are something that they're not!

I wonder whether the chap that bought it (current owner) in July realised it was just a 735iL???

That RAC thing is wrong.....

It says my car was manufactured in December 1999, and the last owner change was January 1999.

That means I bought and registered the car before it was even built.

How can that be?

Didn't Brabus, Lorinser or some other (sad) German Mercedes tuner call it's top version the S1000 (or 1000 SEL some years ago)?...laugh

scratchchin Don't get your skivvies in a twist. I think it's a pretty good joke. I'm sure he's having fun convincing people that it's for real. I wish I had my camera with me when I saw the Passat with its badge very tidily rearranged as ASSPAT. Or maybe it was a Volkswagen test car: It may not, um, enhance your masculinity, but it does make you feel good otherwise.

So!

Dosen't give out any personal details!

You can get far more details with just the reg number if you are sad enough and that is on the front page of the site.

Should be careful guys. Although it isn't bank details and stuff it is still private. So far we know the buyers name, real plate and inside leg without consent, could get PH in trouble
