Can't comment on the Turbo, but there was definitely a grey boxster, not behaving very well in terms of using mirrors.

Hi all,

I was there in one of the black turbos - the one that didn't go off - with Futie.

First time there. Really well organised and a great track, if a little flat.

Don't think I got in anyone's way but if I did I apologise now.

All need now is 4 new tyres, pads all round and new front discs!

Cheers

Rob

Futie, no problem, my second track day and was concentrating on my lines rather than speed on most of the track but enjoying the straight. Sorry if I was a crap diver. I will try harder next time. Any tips.

Whoops - put my foot in it there!

I'm not exactly Mr Experienced Trackday Driver, but -

- Book some instruction - they will show you the right line, recommend gear selections and should point out any track etiquette you miss. I was behind someone at some point who was indicating all over the place and seemed to expect me to nip by on the right!
- Use your mirrors more. If something appears which wasn't there before, by definition they lapping quicker than you so will expect to be let past.
- Give your car/brakes more time to cool down before coming in - normally i'd have a full lap at half speed before coming in, but at Bedford GT perhaps only 1/2 lap.

Nice pics eastendr - I was desperately trying to keep up with chopperellis in the top pic! Hoped that the extra passenger weight might slow him down, but seemingly not ..

Yes, seconded on the Boxster. I twice spent two full laps behind him.

If you find someone doing this, you can take one of two courses..

either go and speak to one of the MSV guys, who will quietly bend his ear over his driving. There is nothing ungentlemanly about doing this
because needless accidents can happen, and this guy probably loves his car as much as you love yours! (you could go and have a chat directly,
but unless one is build like a brick shithouse or extremely diplomatic, you might get a bad reaction(which would surprise me on a porsche day))

OR you could do what i did most of the time and just late brake on the long straights and aggressively, but safely overtake. Sounds a bit irresponsible yes, but sometimes Im sure these guys are just not checking their mirrors...and lots of drivers were braking too early..once they see a car on the inside, they quickly back of and let you through. Wouldnt try it on any sort of corner, sweeping or tight.
I never sat behind any car for more than a couple of corners.

Or..get a yellow car... they seem to get out of the way quicker.

They do seem to spin more easily than any other colour cars though

Not wishing to name and shame but the red turbo has a plate with the name Joe on it.

see attached photo:

I guess that's the drivers name. I've personally come across "Joe" before at Brands only a couple of weeks ago. He was holding me up for half a lap of the GP circuit in the end I had to had to outbrake him at the end of the pit straight into Paddock because he would just not pull over. He nearly ran me off the road. The laughable bit was that he was flashing his lights in anger as I disappeared into the bend.

If you're reading this post Joe then for god's sake please take note that trackdays are not a race they are for fun. There is no shame to yielding to a faster driver. Just remember that it's easy to drive fast in a straight line, particularly in a turbo. However, getting the thing round the corners quickly is where it counts. When you see a faster driver behind you then do the gentlemanly thing and pull over. If you do then you can learn quite a bit about the circuit and it's lines by following the overtaking car at a safe distance and seeing where they are quick/braking points/lines etc. Not to give way is immensely frustrating and just downright dangerous.

If you cannot remember who I am and would like to discuss how to brake late to go through Paddock Hill bend then I drive the black MK1 GT3 that was also at Bedford on Friday.

As for Tif and his yellow peril, I guess you must be the guy in the yellow GT3 that kept spinning, that's right isn't it????? LOL

You mean there were 3 yellow 3's out there spinning like tops..... I personally thought they kept going off so they could get covered in mud to camoflage themselves for the drive home!!

To be fair to Tif, there were indeed 3 yellow 3's out there. His was the only one that didn't have an off all day. Nevertheless, that didn;t stop everyone else, including the marshalls, thinking it was him.

Paul all taken onboard, and I really do apologies if I got in your way, not intended and as to racing, there was nothing further from my mind. I was just practising my lines as instructed in my morning lesson and enjoying the straight. As for the headlamp flashing you have jumped to the wrong conclusion. I also drive a jap car and the windscreen washer stalk and indicator stalk are on the opposite side to the Porsche, I thought you might of got the wrong end of the stick but I was only trying to clean my windscreen. Any way boys give a beginner a break; we all have to start some where. Maybe next time you would give me the honour of riding passenger with you and you can show me how its done.

Hi guy's, i also had a great day very well put together day, i was in a black 987s.
I have to say a big thanks to Paul B for taking me out for a few laps in his GT3!!!!!
nothing quite prepares you for that....
Being in the boxster there is alot of cars faster so no real problems with other drivers except a zanzibar 986 that lost it in the last corner before the straight and nearly ploughed through the back of my car.
Still a great day.

Hi Moosh,

In your defence when I came up behind you in the afternoon you didn't get in my way. Given that we have the same car I would have found it hard to get past you if you hadn't moved over.

It's a massive learning experience. Trying to watch the track in front as well as behind isn't easy. It's all too easy to fall in to the trap of "I'm in turbo so not much will catch me". During my first day at Goodwood I had a Boxter catch me up which I ignored at first but he wouldn't go away so I had to let him go. He didn't drop me - in fact he held me up on the straights - but he was definately faster through the corners. Simple fact was he had track tyres on. Didn't stop him spinning later in the day though!

Cheers

Moosh, hope you dont feel attacked, you had the good manners and humility to apologise, which is something quite rare nowadays.

I would also be quite happy to take you on a few passenger laps to show you bedford's standard lines.

Are you doing the RMA date on the 23rd??

BTW...I used to do the same thing after driving my scooby.

I must admit, when I had my lesson I was concentrating so hard on putting into practice what I was shown by the instructor that I think it made me even a worst driver than normal. The corner just before the long straight I could not get right once, still not sure where the line is on that one. I really want to improve and I did not realise that I was pissing you guys of by going fast down the straight and easing off at the corners. I will try a lot harder next time to be faster, but more importantly I will be more aware of you guys going faster around the circuit. Definitely a learning curve for me. But by the same esteem please think of us beginners trying to get to grips with a different style of driving and not pranging our or any one else’s motor.
