Boxster 'S' - probably the best roadster in the world.

I had assumed there was a larger price difference. A quick search on Auto Trader shows the cheapest S at just under 16K with a handful between 16 & 17. 964's seem to crop up between 12 and 16.

I'd be interested to hear from anyone who's owned both to get a decent comparison.

Boxster S is a much better car. 964 falls between the two hard stools of the 3.2 and the 993!

Be rather difficult/pointless to compare two identical cars don't you think?

964

air cooled
modern enough
bulletproof (not intended as a slight on Boxsters..)

you dont see 10 on your drive to work.....

but if you've had one and are asking the question, then you probably want a boxster (you big girls blouse )

hehe

As some one who has always loved the 911 and could afford a 964 the question I've been asking myself is would the Boxster offer the same or more fun with less grief?

After all they are both performance cars from a great manufacturer and supposedly very well built, however one is 10 yrs older. I've also been think forget both and buy an Audi S2 but I guess this is the wrong forum to mention that.

Happy for you to dissagree but come up with a valid arguement at least. Poster is comparing two, two seater (or as near as dammit) sports/performance cars from the same manufacturer - your example suggests comparing a 4x4 with a sports car (I use the term loosely!). Mind you, you keep comparing your old 4wd bus with sports cars too don't you.

Range Rover or 7 series? Would anyone argue they couldn't be compared on at least one level.

I have both.

Had the Boxster for 3 years and it's a great wee car.....quick,handles brilliantly, fantastic on a sunny day.

But something was missing.....

Drove a friends 964 (107K on the clock) and the experience was just so feral in comparison to the Box. It demands involvement and offers tangible reward if you get it right. (a lot like my old E30 M3).Had to have it and did the deal. It's not far off as quick as the Boxster however your bum-cheeks will be clenched much tighter trying to prove it!

My point is i see no common ground with a 964 and a Boxster...one is a fairly specialist virtual classic car that needs maintaining and a degree of car knowledge, the other is a girls car...have you got a boxster pugsey?
