355 throttle cable and the need for a nappy

Mmmm...nearly killed myself on Saturday as going into a bend at 60mph odd in the countryside and the throttle decided I am not going fast enough and decides to floor the car for me - Nice ! NOT !!...managed to brake and dip the clutch but then the valves sounded like they would come out the bonnet as throttle jammed down....so ignition off for a few secs then back on ...cruise round corner and pull over..(brakes are a bitch whne the engine is off too)...call Ferrari whilst chilling out with nicotine to be told - oh yes the throttle cables can stick from time to time - well known fact apparently....wha tthe 
!!!! Why the do they not sort it out then ?? Dangerous ain't the word....could just imagine the insurance company if I said - oh the throttle cable jammed open - they would be like 'yeah right with your foot attached to the accelerator no doubt.......chilled out since but it was a real eye opener - thank god that car can corner at speed so well....my arse was like 5p 50p.....

PS - I would assume the "fix" would be done as a warranty item or if out of warranty as a gesture of good will before you sue their arse!!!!

Hi, I've been following PH for about a year now, and finally found a thread where I may be able to add something! I’m in the final stages of purchasing a F355, and over the years it’s taken me to get to this point I’ve gathered a whole lot of information on the car.
I’ve dug out a F355 data sheet, showing all factory recalls for all 355 models, it’s in MS word format. If anyone wants a copy please drop me an email, alternatively, perhaps someone would host it?(if it adds any value!).

Cal - does the list tally with the info the AA has (link below hopefully)? Not meaning to knock the info you've got as, as a new owner, I'm interested to get as much info as I possibly can on this stuff...

Yep, looks pretty much the same (probably where it's originally from!) How are you finding the car? Read your profile, I'm hoping it really will meet my expectations (which have been blown far too high I'm sure!) I owned an Esprit, then last year bought an M3, but miss the thrills of a 'true' sports car! - Can't wait. Quoting from a post made by Ninja a long time ago: 'I'm seeing 355 everywhere!'

It looks like Ferrari did a recall on a certain mode of failure on the throttle mechanism so maybe this needs looking at?
Cal - car is awesome. The steering's a bit light for my tastes and it feels like a bit of a chunky monkey (my other car's a Caterham 7) but they're the only "criticisms" I could level at it.
Despite the lightness, the steering has plenty of feel and is nice and direct. The foot pedals and gear change all have a solidity that I love and each works perfectly. Some might find them a bit stiff but give them a good shove and they're fine (and easy to finesse with practice - I've done over 4k miles in 3 months. And rarely use it during the week!).
The engine's a little tame off cam, say under 4k revs, but picks up sweelty for a fairly big capacity engine and above 5k it zips round. And howls like you always knew a Ferrari should! Fuel is then a hassle as it does tend to guzzle when you're tanking it. Couldn't tell you what mpg I'm getting as I don't monitor it that closely, but I'd guess at low teens or (much!) less on many of the journeys I've done
Coming from the 7 the one area of performance that did surprise me was acceleration over 100mph. It simply keeps on pulling. So far only had 155 out of it (might explain the fuel consumption) but there was no way it wanted to stop. And it still feels 100% composed at that speed.
I'll stop gibbering now but if you want more feel free to mail me and I'll go into it off line. Can also give experiences of places I looked and some consolidated advice from regulars on here.
Needless to say I very, very much doubt you'll be over selling it to yourself. Every time I see the thing I break out into a massive smile (it's an all time classic and I strongly suspect it'll become a really sought after model owing to the looks and the noise), and everyone wants to know more about it and have a joy ride. My face often hurts from grinning so much.

Murph, thanks for the reply, it sounds like you’re extremely pleased with your choice J . I agree, the car is beautiful, every time I see one I’m always stopped dead in my tracks, truly stunning cars.

I live close to Egham, and found the Maranello sales team there very helpful. They don’t currently have the exact spec car I’m after, but are helping find it. There is one at HR Owen, which I am planning on viewing this weekend. Having waited such a long time, it’s not going to be too difficult remaining patient for another couple of weeks!

My 355 did exactly the same to me and in my case was down to grease at the end of the cable loosing viscosity because of heat. They just cleaned and re-greased it to cure. First time it happened wasn't too bad but the second I nearly took a cyclist out

Still in Pakistan, its late here and the hotels cable connection is as slow as hell, so I've been unable to watch my warehouse cctv via internet, so thought I;d have a check here
My car has done this a few times to me and it really isn't funny. I noticed that the overmat can cause it to stick down aswell, but apparently even after recall this issue persists. That part of the car is basically crap, and its not a minor fault either. Apparently the greasing thing can solve it but I also noticed it will do it in very cold temperature when its been blasted from cold (I know, I know).
I hope mine will come back and never do it again, but it just shows that the 355 has some major issues, and Ferrari are dicks for not resolving it properly. F**king arseholes.
Can't wait to get back to my car
