I understand that Practical Classics spring 2005 tested various spray systems and that the Spraymate Paint Spray System from Apollo came out as Best Buy. One of these I guess:

Has anyone read the article ? Did they really recomend it, what others did they recomend ?

I will be spraying each panel seperately as they are all off the car. So given that the final 2K finish will be flatted with 1500 wet and then buffed with G3 then G10 I'm thinking that as long as it puts the paint onto each panel with a wet look then it could be OK. Has anyone used one to respray their car with what results ?

thanks

So I managed to get a copy of the article and also another similar report done a year earlier and the test results in the article of the Earlex seemed excellent. I called the guy who actually did the testing who also ran a car restoration business. He was very helpful and explained how they work, how he used them and gave his opinions on which one was the better one.

So on the strength of that I bought a Earlex HVLP Pro (4000) model off eBay for about £100 and then took it to college and asked the spray shop tutor to check it out with 2K black.

He had never seen one before and only ever used Sata and DeVilbiss guns but he was very impressed with the Earlex. His only comment was that the fluid tip/needle being 2.0 as standard is a little on the large size for finish coat and that the optional extra 1.5 size would put on less paint and give a better finish - so thats my next step.

In summary, this Earlex will spray continuously all day long and looks from the sprayed panels we've done already it's going to give excellent results and all for £100 .. or £175 new. And its only the size of a small vacuum cleaner too
