First you have to lower the steering colum and if you put your fingers up under the middle of the dash you should feel the end of a bold, there is two bold that hold the dash on, there is 1 at the top in the middle too, there shouldent be any nuts up there, if there is one at the bottom you may be able to loosen it with your fingers, if you are realy lucky it may be held back with stick mastik as mine was fewww..
Hope this helps

When I took mine/L33's out there was a bolt at each corner. You just have to get your self in there upside down, develop another set of elbows, moove some vent pipes around, shrink your hands a bit and hope they're only "finger" tight
Refitting is the reverse of removal
only it's muctch more difficult cos getting the little nuts on the end of the captive bolts way up there is a fracking night mare, especially when they fall in your eye.

So thats how you do it. I've attempted a couple of times but gives up very quickly. I need to re-stick the leather edging to the veneer and couldn't figure out how to remove the panel.
Will try again later.
Cheers,
Lee.

Right, just done it myself - a right pain in the ass job. It would help if you were a contortionist....
There are 2 panels the make up the speedo / rev counter area on a 400:
The outer panel is a thin sheet of steel with the veneer mounted to the face of it. On the rear, there are three threaded studs welded to the rear of the panel with 10mm nuts that keep it attached to the inner panel. Attached a photo of the outer panel. the side you can't see has the veneer attached to it.
The inner panel is another sheet of steel which the dials are mounted to. This is kept in place with 4 screws that go through the panel in all 4 extreme corners. On the back of the screws, there are 7mm nuts. This screw / nut arrangement keeps everything secure to the fibreglass dash. Attached photo of inner panel - note the 3 locating holes for the outer panel.
I found the best way of removal was to firstly locate the offending nuts at the rear of the dash and offer 7mm or a 10mm mini-socket onto the rear of the nut. I found the socket would undo the nuts by hand (the nuts were more than finger tight).
Edited to add photo of inner panel.

Great Photos Lee better than a Haynes ...and very helpful, When I took the 400 dash out this panel was only fixed with tape round the captive studs and just pressed home, now I know why.
Blaine, sounds like you need to pass a small child into the footwell, upside down (barefoot) and get them to do it for you.
The threat of 'no Santa' should help
Nice Mug Lee, yours ?? Are you a Virgo ?? !!!

Threat of "no Santa"?
- I'll have to remember that one for when I get round to having kids. The mug is mine and yes I am. I am guessing Angie spotted that?
I should have fun and scraped knuckles putting it all back together tomorrow
