Hopefully we'll find something similar to run our petrol engines on. Good luck to you - I hope this gets up the noses (pun unintended) of the carping environmental lobby who still reckon that piling everyone into a clattering, resource-chomping bus is the way forward. Too bad the government don't think clean cars are a good idea - then again, they can't control people's movement that way.

All signs do indeed point to this being the way of the future.. one day we're gonna be incredibly thankful for the development that VW and Peugeot are doing on diseasal engines..

And of course I'm right behind anyone who can legitimately evade Gordo's ravenous taxation regime

The car and fuel companies can control the use of fuel cells, since their manufacture is not something the average Joe can do in their garage and refilling them is a complicated process with high-pressure hoses and stuff.

Vegetable oil however means that almost anyone can set themselves up as a producer and immediately bypass the fuel companies profits, and of course governments can't justify huge amounts of tax on environmental grounds since the emissions are harmless.

Fair enough - but if the car industry does not support it, and you can't by cars from the showroom that are designed for oil, then the general public will never buy it.. (IMHO)

That was going quite well until I went to the first link, where the opening bit said

Do you want to help save the planet?

THEN I SWITCHED OFF.................

Some manufacturers will still honour the warranty if you use bio-diesel or vegetable oil.

You can by bio-diesel at quite a few petrol stations, and I am sure it will increase as LPG has, and will.

You mention that veggie fuel is an infinite resource, but only if there is the land available to grow the crops.

Yes, I understand where both of you are coming from however we have to put this into perspective.
If the UK suddenly started to run all the diesel motors on veggie oil then yes there will be a problem, not only with supply but also the infrastructure.

Thats not going to happen.

As I see it oil is a finite resource, once its gone thats it. Veggie crops can be grown, even if they have to be grown and imported elsewhere they are still infinte.

Studys by various bodys all over the world have shown that there is anough land to produce the UK's fuel needs, this is not taking into account that veggie oil is already used in huge quantitys and dumped in land fill sites.

The US dumps billions of gallons oil waste oil each year into land fill sites and feedstock.

ok, I have some questions. How many independent geologists reports have you seen on the availability of oil in the middle east (i.e. not in Shell's pocket)? What are their timelines for oil running out? Are Boeing working on a replacement bio-diesel jet engine? Personally I feel there's a government/petrol/motor industry conspiracy. Namely there's a load more oil than they would have us believe (i.e. more than 80 years worth), but for the sake of price control, political/environmental correctness there are token gestures made to appear forward thinking and environmentally friendly. In the Sunday Times 2 weeks ago it was reported that 2 weeks before the war started Saddam Hussein ordered people to dig bomb shelters and wells for water. One or two actually struck oil and were forced to call the emergency services. How much oil is there really in Iraq and who knows? Vege diesel oil, tell it to Bush and watch him chuckle.

I thought everyone knew the reason the Iraq war started was due to its oil reserves?

Your comments are what 90% of people think, "oil will not run out for a very long time, no need to worry" There is plenty of research from geologists, as in independant not the ones who work for the oil companys, and they all say that ALL the big oil reserves have been found, thats how they know how much oil there is.

I am sure you life will not change and you will contunue to drive your car, and pay whaever the cost of fuel is. meanwhile Mr Veggie is getting free or 80% reduced motoring cost's and laughing everytime he starts his car up!
