Topic for Feb's competition is: "Beauty in unexpected places"

Not too much explanation needed, but this is something I'd been thinking about as a theme for some pictures for some time. Good luck! Presumably somebody who can will pin this?

Actually, this is not as easy as it originally appears... definitely one I am going to have to go out and find this month.

Haven't really got much in stock as it were.

Although I have always liked this picture. An ordinary table setting but made so much more with the right light.

I'm still not sure whether I should post this. Taken yesterday before I'd seen the competition title. Alice (subject) doesn't do outside so getting her to the top of "Brown Willy" (no sniggering at the back), the highest point in Cornwall was an achievement in itself.

Editted to change photo size to 480*640

Hmmn... Will have to think about this one. Until then this is the best match I have for the brief.

Dying flower @ S21 death camp & prison, Phnom Phen Cambodia. Former school where 11,000 people lost their lives.

Damn you Mr C.......I always wanted to try something with those huts and the only shot I got was cr*p!!!!

Anyhow you live and you learn. Bought a Nikon D40 Kit at the weekend and the news just in is:

Happy with elements of the composition but there is a whitish hue - any suggestions folks?

OK , please be gentle with me but I'm new to this photography forum but have already learnt so much!!

Here's my 1st attempt, new camera (D80), photo shot at f/5.3, iso100, 42mm focal length using Aperture Priority mode

What I was trying to capture was the buds being the beauty within but with the contrast of spring coming and frost, not sure if it's worked!

I welcome your comments!!

Blimey - your post count / membership age is quite something. Continuing on your same average rate I take it this post makes up for half of your annual posting allocation? hehe

Hi, my first post in this forum. I'm very much a beginner so go easy on me.
I unexpectedly found these icicles when I was putting out the rubbish. I messed about a bit in photoshop to make it black and white.

Now I've got to fix the overflowing gutter!
