I recently bought a pair of alloy rocker covers which were supposed to fit either the 2.8 or 2.9 cologne engine. They had 7 holes not 8 so I guess they were for the 2.8. An 8th hole could be easily drilled as the lug for the hole was there and in the correct place.
I tried them on the engine, one side fitted perfectly, the other side would have fitted perfectly but the clearance under the alternator bracket was too little. (as you mention)
Couldn't face hitting alloy rocker covers with a hammer to get them to fit, so I got the original steel ones powder coated and refitted them instead...
I don't know what the deal is with 2.8 and 2.9 steel rocker covers however.

Cheers for the info chaps. My plan was to take off the existing ones and clean them up for either paint or coating and fit a cheapy set in the meantime so that the car has no 'downtime' over the summer. Covers for the 2.8 seem to be plentiful and cheap.
Might just wait until the winter now and do the job without the subsitute set - plenty of other stuff that can be done without taking her off the road.

They look a bit grot to me but may do as a stop gap whilst you're polishing yours.
Getting my outriggers and MOT sorted next week. Very miffed to be missing the Holy Island run this weekend, but ho hum that's how it goes.

The problem with the alloy rocker covers I bought was that they wouldn't fit under the alternator bracket on the right hand bank of the engine.

There are ways and means of getting around it, in the end it was easier to get the original steel ones shot blasted and powder coated as I was getting the swirl pot done at the same time.
Thanks for that info Tom - the link worked - I will have to research the whole thing as at present I have a 55amp alternator fitted which is dubious but it does clear the rocker covers. I have obtained a 90amp which I was going to service and fit at a later date but this might alter the whole clearance issue.

And yes they were one bolt hole short but they dont leak as the gasket needed the holes pushing out so I left that one in, and the left one did foul on the alternator but only a bit so I filed the bottom of the altenator rear mount and the mounting bracket.
The most difficult bit was re routing the breather system, but that seems to work ok.
They look very nice now so well worth the effort.

Hi Ian
I plummed the fuel tank vent onto the inlet manifold and then blanked off the small vent in the right hand rocker cover.
The engine now breathes through the oil filler cap vent pipe into the air filter area.
It is working well so far with no crank case, or fuel tank presure problems, although its early days.
If you can send me a mail I will send you a picture as I allways struggle to put pics on the site. I cant even update the picture of my car on the profile. Any Ideas?

To post a picture on a forum posting, firstly you need to find a website that will host your pictures for you. There are loads of sites that will do this for free e.g. photobucket, flickr etc. You can't just post a picture directly from your hard drive......apart from to put a picture on your profile! To do this, just go to the 'My Info' part of the menu bar on PH. Scroll down to 'Profile' and then go to the 'Picture' section. There is a button that says 'choose file' - just select this, choose an image from your computer to upload and it's done. Dead easy!

P.s Used a fiesta oil filler cap with double outlet pipes and have now run the tank breather into that, so it vents into the engine breater which vents into the air filter. Which is pretty much how it was when the tank breather went into the righ hand breather pipe.
