Ok, my work are going to be testing their cameras at high speed round Millbrook. We have cars that can do 130 mph, but we would like to try faster speeds.

So, if anyone out there has a car which can go substantially faster and can get to Millbrook (Bedfordshire) on Monday (2nd of June) they will get a go at the famous bowl and reasonable travelling expenses (e.g. from London or Home Counties) paid for. Now for the boring stuff, you will get a 1 and a half hour (! what do they say in it?) drivers briefing and we will need to do quite a number of laps of the bowl (at least 20). You are liable for your own insurance I'm afraid. We will need you to drive in particular lanes for some of the testing, but you are allowed to go as fast as you like (towards the end of the testing).

As to what we do - see www.pipstechnology.com for an overview. The cameras we manufacture are those used by traffic master on the blue poles and are for monitoring number plates. They are not used by the London Congestion Charging scheme nor for any speed camera systems. If you are interested email me at alanc@pipstechnology.co.uk. Please make sure you are available on Monday and let me know what car you have with an approximate top speed.

I hope you don't mind me posting this here...

I'd happily bring the Noble (160+) but I'm in Belfast on that day - sorry.

Your web site lists toll enforcement and speed enforcement as two of the uses! What sort of speed range are you looking for?

We are hoping to achieve 180mph/250kmh if possible. Law in most western countries means that using ANPR (Automatic Number Plate Recognition as it is known) for speed enforcement won't work as it is not reliable enough - it is really marketing blurb, although I believe they issue speeding tickets in Mexico based on it...

As for toll enforcement, it is either for where people dodge tolls either by driving through the pre-paid lanes - it speeds up issuing tickets in the countries where this is common. The other use is to catch people swapping tickets in laybys halfway down the country then paying for the very short legs at each end... many 2nd world countries have this as a very common problem e.g. Malaysia.

BTW: I'm happy to discuss this, because really its only my job because they pay me, I drive a Caterham every day to work and would resign if I was finding it used as Big Brother. I do not speak for the company or some kind of disclaimer required here.

Ooh, one more thing, due to a restriction put on us by our customer (the Highways agency) your car must be road legal for at least some speeds +100mph - if you want to take stuff off to achieve 180 then you're welcome.

As you're all going to ask - the Highways Agency are putting in a system similar to Trafficmaster to monitor traffic flows round the country. Actual number plates will not be available to them, just hashes of them (A hash is a way of reducing the amount of data to send without losing too much information, but it also protects your plate as there are many plates which map to a single has number).

Presumably for the number plate recognition you would want it to be clean - which rules my V8S out then! Also rev limited to a mere 160 mph ish and don't fancy holding that for twenty laps! But in the unlikely event you get stuck and can't find anything more suitable, give me a call.

Bugger. I'm on holiday or I would definitely be up for this. I went to that Motordrive thing last Sunday and took a few cars up to 100mph on the bowl...I said at the time I'd love to bring the Boxster S and try to max it out (167mph)

Daz...you know you want to mate. And video it...oh yes...

Can you tell me what wavelength of Infra red the cameras are sensitive to? There dosent appear to be any info regarding that on the site.
Thanks in advance!
