Porsche busted out of Malaysian showroom
‘I’ll take the ‘4’ I think - better traction on the shiny floor’
A car thief has apparently stolen a Porsche 911 Targa 4 in Malaysia by gunning it straight through the showroom glass doors.
In a heist straight from a Hollywood script, the man, who was described as well-dressed – had already produced his chequebook when he asked a saleswoman to switch on the Porsche’s engine. He then floored the throttle and smashed through the showroom and onto the street.
But the thief failed to take one key point into account: that most new cars are delivered to the dealer on fumes. Police officers found the car abandoned 1.5 kilometres away, reputably out of fuel.

Part 2
After crashing the car worth more than 280,000 dollars out of an auto showroom, then abandoning it when fuel ran out, the thief returned with a can of petrol and stole it again -- this time from the police, reports said on Wednesday.
Police in northern Penang state found the Porsche 911 Targa 4 on Monday shortly after a well-dressed thief walked into the showroom with a chequebook, asked to test the engine, and then crashed the car through the showroom's glass doors, newspapers reported.
Officers found the high-performance car abandoned 1.5 kilometres (one mile) away after it reportedly ran out of fuel.
Police took the car back to their compound but, later Monday, somebody cut the perimeter fence, snuck in, and re-fuelled the car, the New Straits Times reported.
The Porsche almost knocked down a police sentry as it made its getaway, avoiding roadblocks and several pursuing squad cars before the driver abandoned his prize about 10 kilometres away, the report said.
Penang police chief Koh Hong Sun said police did not rule out the same suspect being behind both thefts because they had the car keys, state Bernama news agency reported.
"We are investigating the case thoroughly, including whether it was to be smuggled overseas and how the car could be driven out from the... police district headquarters," Koh said.
Two or three suspects were likely responsible, he said.

Yahoo news reckons it was worth $280,000 wow they have gone up in price ????
Sounds about right, if not a bit cheap. I was in Malaysia Oct last year and walked down to the garage in question for a nose around. A standard 2.7 Boxster, one year old, was up for what worked out at £60,000!!!They slap a MASSIVE tax on non-Malaysian manufactured vehicles to support their home manufacturing economy.

Walter: "Police officers found the car abandoned 1.5 kilometres away, reputably out of fuel."
AFP/Yahoo: "Officers found the high-performance car abandoned 1.5 kilometres (one mile) away after it reportedly ran out of fuel."
Journalism 101. Yes, change a word or two if you lift a chunk of someone else's story, but make sure the replacement word makes sense (and leave in the UK specific conversions).

Spotted that too- but was going to suggest 'reputedly' instead. Tut-tut. Thesaurus anyone?? AFP/Yahoo: "Officers found the high-performance car abandoned 1.5 kilometres (one mile) away after it reportedly ran out of fuel."
