alternator replaced but still screwed!
Discussion
I tried to start my chimaera 400 and i presumed the battery was dead. I replaced the battery and then it went dead. So i replaced the Alternator and it was o.k but now the car won't start again. I noticed a lack in performance in first gear just before it broke down again. Can anyone help me as i have already p***** away all my cash to no avail. oh and im stranded in Norfolk and i have to be in Sheffield by the end of the day. I hear you Im screwed arnt I!
Well your sound advice got me back to Sheffield from Norfolk. I did replace the Alternator but it was knackered. Amazing where the 100 amp fuse was. I had as much fun working out where it was as i did when i was looking for the battery for the first time. Who would have thought that a component that cost less than a quid would have got me stranded in Norfolk for three days. Cheers to you both for the sound advice. The look on my face was priceless after spending 350 pounds and it still draining batteries. Perhaps Engineering lessons at night school might be a thought Chimaera S3TAY.

The later Griffs do have this fuse though (mine does). The stamped out aluminium ones as used by TVR can crack and cause intermittent issues so a good idea to replace it with a proper sort of fuse. You can get one that fits with a flat bit at each end with holes that will go over the screws/bolts in the housing (upgrading this to a 120A fuse is I think also a pretty common upgrade); the 80A fuse in the footwell in some cars also has the same problem and is also worth upgrading to a better fuse type (and again a bit larger as well).

I can remember a Griff having this issue on a trackday. The fuse was mounted on the chassis under the car?Fortunately I don't have one of these ridiculous things
