2008 RS6 Avant revealed

The new Audi RS6 Avant looking good

Pictures have been released of the 2008 RS6 Avant, powered by a turbocharged 5.2 litre V10. This upgraded version of the current S6 engine will produce a massive 580 horsepower.

Official details of the car will emerge at the Frankfurt Motor Show, but these pictures show that it will be clean and restrained in the traditional Audi style.

I'd have thought that engine with twin turbos would have produced more than 580bhp? still that's plenty for getting on with, and leaves room for an AMD type remap.

The horsepower arms race? It will have to at some point or we'll be getting 800bhp saloons in a couple of years. 2012 RS6 with a Veyron engine in the boot anyone?

Yes please! wink

That's a mean looking Beasty. Good color too.

Drove the orginal RS6, which was fast. This car just sonds plain bonkers.

Where are you going to utilise all that power anyway? It's not like it was designed to be a track car, It's still a friggin' estate/4 door saloon.

Regardless of how ridiculous the power value may be, how is it going to drive with a 5.2 V10 infront of the front axle? Will they be able to work the same tricks they used for the RS4 or will this be another drag racer? These comments are all based on reviews btw - i've never had the pleasure of driving any fast Audi.

I think they've shifted the engine behind the axle line now. At least they have in the RS4.

Good looking car, now, if they have reduced the weight somewhat and reduced the CD by a lot, it might just be the best estate yet.

Mark.

And, Chip to 680bhp hmmmmmbiggrin

Sorry but thats not correct, the engine is still way forward but in the RS4 but the wings are aluminium and the bonnet maybe too, so they have been keen to keep front end weight down and it works... Assume the same will be true of the RS6

correct - it is incorrect. they've got the engine further back in the A5/s5 but the rest are as was. as said rs4 improved things by losing front end weight and by twiddling the power split between the F/R axles from 60:40 (or 50:50??) to 40:60. i am sure they've done the same on the rs6.

i like it but then again the a6 avant is one of the nicest looking 'normal' cars you can buy at the moment anyway IMO.

must. type. quicker.
