Now We Can All Be The Stig

Top Gear test track goes digital

New GTR is one of the stars of GT5
New GTR is one of the stars of GT5
Finally, the opportunity has arisen for all of us to pretend to be the Stig, thanks to the caring sharing types at Polyphony Digital.

For those who don’t know, Polyphony is the subsidiary of Sony responsible for creating the finest racing game of all time, Gran Turismo.

In the latest iteration, version number five of the many million selling game, you will be able to drive the infamous Top Gear test track.

However, due to the complexity of digitising the 900 or so cars and plethora of tracks in minute detail, the full version of the game isn’t due for launch until December 13th 2008.

There will be a prologue version out early next year, with a few cars and tracks to drive, however, the TG track won’t be included in this version.

GT5 will also include Top Gear TV, allowing users to download 40 classic episodes of the show, while the game itself will be available in download and blue ray formats when the full version is released.

Question is, will there be a Suzuki Liana in the car line up?

Without a Liana, its pretty useless.

And I can't believe the continual delays to this game. It also means that the odds of GT ever appearing for the PSP are, well, zero.

I'm starting to believe that GT5 is going to come as a bundle with Duke Nukem Forever.

I'm sure it will be worth the wait. Remember, that there was a 4 year gap between GT3 and GT4...

Dudging by the sneak pictures of some of the GT5 footage I've seen, the game will be spectacular.

Oh and with 900 cars to chose from, I'm sure one of them will be a Liana smile

and hopefully the ps3 will be worth getting then.. and have some games out that are not eclipsed by the 360's frame rate.

We'll probably see the demo version being run on a 360 like most other launch titles for the ps3 wink

Im not too bothered that it is a year or so off at the moment because i cant yet justify paying silly money for the PS3. By then it will be about £5!!

Nice that they are adding more tracks (lets hope you can run the full length and do high-speed bouncy runs) but I wish they'd put in a few decent roads too. Circuit driving in road cars gets boring.

Dec 08. Now, GT4 was Nov 03 was it, and it came out April 04, so Dec 08 > May 09 + some more as the delays get bigger and bigger, so maybe July 09 hehe

Great news about the Top Gear Track, but 13 months to wait? WTF

Glad I have Forza 2 on the 360 to keep me busy!

Would be good to get The Stig to do some comparisons to see how close to the real thing it is. Maybe doing all the power laps on GT5

Judging by previous form, '900 cars to choose from' will mean 827 variants of Skyline and a smattering of everything else.
