Hi,

There are a number of performance enhancements which can be made to a 'G' car Turbo. Horsepower gains are minimal, but the performance gains are much greater.

First, it's important to be sure the engine is in sound shape or going to be rebuilt. A comparitive wet and dry compression check will indicate valve health as well as indicate if 'piston crowning' is occurring, a common fault of pre-'86 Turbos.

Resetting the M.O.P. to 104° by switching the Intake Cam pulley with the Aux. Shaft pulley will accomplish this and produce greater low-end torque. Installing a '104' Cam (no relation to M.O.P.), will increase valve lift slightly (0.412 vs. 0.378" stock) w/o sacrificing any streetability. A DS2 Cam will increase power further, but streetability will be slightly affected.

The heads can be ported almost a full 0.25", increasing HP and torque significantly.

Installing Forged alloy pistons will result in a higher CR (8.5:1 vs 7.5:1 for stock cast pistons) increasing HP slightly, but will allow boost to be raised from 0.55BAR to 0.69BAR.

Rejetting the dellortos' idle jets from 0.055 to 0.062 will aid in the 3K RPM transition and smooth out the low end.

A larger, less restrictive exhaust will allow better breathing and slightly more power.

The thing to remember is that there are no large increases available given the lack of chargecooling and the HP limitations of the gearbox. I have done these mods to my car and it will readily run with the SE's. Happy Motoring! Jim'85TE

Hi,

I live in Minnesota, in the Capitol City of St. Paul. Most people unfamiliar with the area know it better as the Twin Cities of Minneapolis/St.Paul, two separate cities of about 200K+ each separated by the Mississippi River. I live right on the River on the St. Paul side which puts me about 800' (width of the River) from Minneapolis as well. Happy Motoring! Jim'85TE
