Ho ho ho fellow Tivvers,

Has anyone ever made a warning buzzer system to let you know when the sidelights or headlights are left on as you get out of the beast? I'd prefer to buy one to wire in (maybe from Maplins or something), but would be willing to rig one up myself. I reckon that a 12V buzzer powered in parallel with the side and headlights switch using 12V diodes to avoid both side and head lights coming on when sidelights only are on (keeping up OK?) with the interior light switch used to earth should work.

Shame TVR didn't fit one in the first place as this is probably the major cause of run down battery embarrassing breaking into beast syndrome.

Cheers,

Richard Fisher

I fitted a 12v buzzer powered by the lights circuit and earthed by the door switch for the interior light. Took ten minutes and works fine. In hindsight I wired it up slightly wrong though. I don't really want it to come on when I open the door, I want it to come on when I switch the engine off. But it's good enough that I can't be bothered rewiring it.

Can't think of an easy way to rig it up to go on when ignition is off as my 99 Chim has no accessory switch. It may be easier to rewire the lights switch to the radio ignition power wire so that the lights only work with the ignition on.

BTW where did you get the buzzer and how much was it?

May be possible without the accessory switch, power the buzzer from the lighting circuit and earth to any terminal on the ignition switch which is earthed when the ignition is off. I don't know if there is one, but worth a look maybe?

Re the buzzer, 50p from Maplins, cost me more than that in petrol to drive across town to collect it!

Noel how does this work? From your (brief) description is seems there are 2 x live feeds going into the buzzer at any one time - the lights and/or the ignition, and 1 x earth. Is it a special component from Maplins? R...

I fitted a buzzer to my Griff 500 after leaving the lights on (horse/stable door/bolting/etc).

Wired a small DC piezo buzzer (maplin) between the output of the sidelight switch (live when lights on) and the wire to the drivers door pin switch (grounded when the door is open). You will need a diode (1N4001) in series with the buzzer otherwise it will go reverse polarity with the door closed and lights off!

Even after nearly 4 years of ownership I still look back at my car as I walk away, this gives me a chance to check the lights are not on.

Instead of an annoying buzzer I think Peugeots are fitted with a nice chiming thingy. Might be nicer to source one of those (I'm sure there are a few Peugeot owners who can confirm/say I'm talking 80110X).

FYI, The Maplin order code for the lights on alarm is:
VF24B
Velleman Kit K3505

It is a "solder it yourself" job, but only takes 15 minutes or so
(30 minutes if you're crap at soldering)
The benefit of this over the buzzer, is that it only bleats for 20 seconds or so & then switches off, so if you really wanted to leave your lights on, you could, without it bleating away & deadening the battery even more.

Noel wired in mine & it gets used all the time :-)
